Saturday Hustle - November 10
With the American Music Awards airing next Sunday, the Saturday Hustle team shares the nominees for Artist of the Year as well as their biggest hit of 2012.
Justin Bieber - Boyfriend
Not only is Bieber nominated for three awards this year, but the teen pop star is also slated to perform on the big night. There is no doubt that Beiber has used this year to transition into adult contemporary pop and R&B singles, unlike 2011 singles such as Never Say Never. Beiber's hit Boyfriend, which showcases Beiber's new baritone voice, also shows off the star's ability to rap. Boyfriend peaked at number 1 on the Billboard Charts.
Drake - The Motto
Canadian rapper Drake is also nominated for Favourite Rap/Hip Hop Album for his second studio album Take Care. According to Billboard, Drake's chart-topper The Motto, featuring fellow young money rapper Lil Wayne, became his 12th single to top the charts and caused him to surpass Diddy for the most No 1s in the chart's history.
Maroon 5 - Payphone
After releasing their major comeback single Moves Like Jagger in 2011, the band maintains their success with their single Payphone. According to World Entertainment News Network, Maroon 5 made pop chart history by becoming the first band to top 490,000 digital download sales in a week. Maroon 5 has three nominations this year.
Katy Perry - Part of Me
Perry's single Part of Me debuted at number one on the Billboard singles charts — one of 20 to debut at number one in the chart's 53 years of existence. Perry is also nominated for Best Female Pop/Rock Artiste.
Rihanna - Where Have You Been?
Rihanna is nominated for three AMAs this year, a testament to the singer's highly successful career. Last year, Rihanna matched Whitney Houston's tally of 11 number one singles on the Billboard charts. This year, the Bajan star continued her chart toppers with singles such as Where Have You Been?
