What started as a creative pastime soon turned into a lucrative business with a purpose when 23-year-old Florida native Maxim Thuriere— born of a French father and Haitian mother – commenced crafting and selling jewellery at his alma mater, the University of South Florida in early 2015. Within a year Thuriere has managed to gain the nod of approval from Reggae/Dancehall artistes Chronixx, Popcaan, Kabaka Pyramid, Jesse Royal, and Stephen Marley for his sleek, earthy styles, some performers even collaborating with the young artist.

His brand Enbois – pronounced (en•bwa) – which is French for the term "wooden", an acronym for
Support. After being in business for a mere few months, Thuriere realised that his work could benefit others and quickly sought a way to give back to his country of heritage, Haiti. "We partnered with a non-profit organisation by donating a portion of each transaction to
TheHaitiTreeProject.org, which aims to reforest Haiti one tree at a time. To date, we have planted 4,000 documented trees in deforested areas of Haiti and one day hope to partner with other reforestation organisations around the Caribbean and Central America to continue to make a difference," he shared.

Keen on conscious living and with the assistance of social media and various online platforms, the artisan subsequently teamed up with reggae royalty Chronixx and Jesse Royal and dancehall artiste Popcaan to take his venture to the next level. The intent is to spread the heartening message of love and unity and to give back to the Caribbean as well as surrounding areas. "Our brand is all about being conscious of our environment, promoting positive actions, and being original. As a big fan of Reggae and other forms of roots music from the Caribbean, I thought that the brand may have some success in these genres of music which have a similar message."

Though his eclectic styles are sold predominately online– enboisbymaxim.com ships internationally – you can also purchase exclusive Enbois by Maxim pieces at Jesse Royal’s merchandise shop – available on select tours and pop-up shops, Popcaan’s site iamunruly.com, and on Chronixx’s site chronixxmusic.com
in the near future. A commendable start for the young entrepreneur, but what’s next? "Well, so far for 2017 we plan to hold several re-occurring pop-up shops in Jamaica, Haiti, Trinidad & Tobago, and South Florida. The rest of the story, however, is still being written." With the approval of some of The Rock’s finest and clean styles for every season, an exclusive Enbois by Maxim timepiece may be in order.
SO looks forward.
