Brooklyn, NY-- KC Jockey is not resting on his laurels. The Jamaican New York-based dancehall DJ is very busy, recording multiple singles including a remix of the song Mundian To Bach Ke (Beware of the Boys ) with Asian rapper, Punjabi MC, and Jay-Z.
"The chance to record with Jay-Z and Punjabi was an opportunity of a lifetime," an elated KC Jockey said during an interview recently.
Coventry-born Punjabi MC created pop history with his bhangra-infused track that shot to the top of the charts. Mundian To Bach Ke - currently one of the biggest anthems in clubs across Europe - was the first bhangra single released on a mainstream label to enjoy chart-topping success.
"Everything happened so quickly. Jay Z heard Punjabi's track, liked it and jumped on it. Then the A&R person that was handling the project asked if I would be interested in doing a few bars on the song. I did. Now it is blowing up," he said.
As result of the collaboration with Jay-Z/Punjabi and the stateside success of his song, Diggy Diggy - recorded with Elephant Man - the Brooklyn--based artiste is booked to perform on May 9 with hot US rappers, 50 Cent and Busta Rhymes in Providence, New York.
"I am hoping to deliver a good performance as it would mean a lot to my career," the deejay noted.
Aside from the remix with Punjabi and Jay-Z, KC recently recorded singles with Beenie Man and Kirk Davis (One-Third), Tanya Stephens (Call It A Draw) and Ce' Cile (Gwaan Hype). Call It A Draw was produced by Delissa and will be released on the Big Jeans Compilation Disc, while Gwaan Hype and One Third will be released on his own Sweet Sadie's Record label. Other acts who have recorded on the Gwaan Hype rhythm include Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Angel Doolas, Tanto Metro and Devonte, Tanya Stephens, Jah Mason, Frankie Paul, Escobar and Plucky Ranks. Videos for all three songs will be shot on location in New York, Miami and Jamaica.
KC also recorded Gigolo with controversial female DJ, Lady Saw ,on the Bad Company Rhythm for Greensleeves Record and a duet Need Love with cultural singer, Luciano, for a soon to be released compilation disc. The disc will also feature Grammy nominee, Freddy McGregor, Ken Boothe, Junior Reid, Jah Mason, Morgan Heritage, Ras Shiloh, Capleton and Sizzla. He also recorded War with the late Scotty, a few weeks before the old school deejay's untimely death.
The deejay also disclosed that the video for Diggy Diggy was serviced to TV stations in Jamaica and will be released internationally next week. The single is currently enjoying heavy rotation in New York and on the West Coast and could pave the way for a major label deal.
