SHAGGY is currently working on his sixth studio album, the follow-up to last year's Lucky Day. While Lucky Day didn't deliver nearly as much in terms of sales figures in comparison to Shaggy's multi-platinum selling Hot Shot, the album managed to sell more than two million copies worldwide.
According to Robert Livingston, Shaggy's longtime manager, Lucky Day was one of the biggest sellers for the now defunct MCA label for 2002. Livingston said that the album was still shelving out hits. Hey Sexy Lady, Strength of a Woman and My Party On featuring rhythm and blues veteran Chaka Khan, have registered on various charts in Europe.
According to Livingston, "Shaggy is now with Geffen/Interscope, as MCA was dissolved by the Universal Music Group'. Livingston said that Shaggy's upcoming album, which is still untitled, isn't due out until the first quarter of next year.
"So far we have completed five to six tracks for the project," Livingston said.
Asked if any of the crop of local dancehall producers will be contributing to the project, Livingston said "We are taking ideas from different producers, so I wouldn't rule that out as a possibility."
Shaggy's latest single is Your Eyes featuring his musical partner Ricardo 'Rik Rok' Ducent. Both had combined on the chart topper It Wasn't Me. Your Eyes is on Big Yard's Salsa rhythm project.
Blast, the movie that Shaggy shot earlier this year with Eddie Griffin, is due for release in US theatres in December.
