Lehbanchuleh

ROOTS and culture singer, Lehbanchuleh, formerly of the duo Sugar Black and Lehbanchuleh, later renamed Two 'O' Clock, recently launched his solo career with the release of his album Claim the Joy.

Speaking of Claim the Joy, Lehbanchuleh who hangs out mainly in Miami these days, said this his first solo album which has been in the works since 2001, will be released in Jamaica next month.

Also featured on the album are Luciano, Mikey General, Anthony B, Pam Hall, Leiba Hibbert, and his one time partner, Patrick Hall, aka Sugar Black.

"He (Sugar Black) and I may occasionally collaborate on a project, but right now I'm focusing on Lehbanchuleh," explains the singer born Norbert Clarke in the parish of St Mary.

After the two Rastafarian singers parted company with their former producer/ manager, Tony Rebel, head honcho of Flames Productions to which they were attached, they decided to drop the name given to them by Rebel. It was at that point, they changed their stage name to Two 'O' Clock. But now that Clarke has chosen to follow the beat of his own drum, he has once again assumed the sobriquet Lehbanchuleh.

In tune with his Swahili-derived moniker which means building a solid foundation, Lehbanchuleh says that being in Miami on a regular basis allows him to be closer to the Stone Tiger Entertainment production house on whose label Claim The Joy, produced by Banchu Muzik, was released.

At the moment he is busy working on a video to promote the album. Lehbanchuleh will also be performing in Miami shortly with South African Reggae star Lucky Dube.

Lehbanchuleh could not hide his excitement as he told Splash that Claim The Joy which was released in Miami a month ago has a strong possibility of being nominated for the next Reggae Grammy Awards.

"I have just gotten information that it was included among the sets from which the Reggae Grammy will be nominated," Lehbanchuleh said.

Claim the Joy, he said, is one of three albums from the Stone Tiger outfit being eyed for nomination in the Reggae category of the Grammy Awards. The former successful Tastee Talent contestant said he was reliably informed that the selection committee was also looking at Mikey General's Exalt Jah and Admiral Tibet's Determination.
