Using magic for Christ
...Andre Kole warms hearts at the Ward
ANDREA WAITE, Observer staff writer

"HOW did he do that?" and "I don't believe that, it simply isn't possible," were just some of the exciting comments from patrons who attended the performance of visiting American illusionist Andre Kole at the Ward Theatre on Saturday last. Kole is in the island as the special guest of Campus Crusade For Christ.

Kole, a professed Christian, warmed the hearts of especially the children in the audience with some stunning tricks or illusions as he prefers to label them.

Eyes popped when he made the Statue of Liberty disappear into thin air, and there were many oohs, aahs and other gasps when he used a faucet, a funnel and a vase to pour water from the head of a boy in the audience.

Kole is widely considered to be one of the world's finest magicians; but there is a major twist to his presentations. He uses the stage and his abilities to create illusions to spread the word of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

"As an illusionist, I do not waste my time trying to accomplish that which is possible, but rather, I concentrate on that which is impossible. In addition I use my talent as an illusionist to spread the word of Jesus Christ and Christian gospel," Kole told the Observer following one of his two performances on Saturday.

This was obvious during his performances as from time to time he would promote the need for others to accept Christ with some simple tricks or illusions.

Kole's interest in magic began when he was seven years old when he watched a performance by Moxo the Magician. Eventually, they both became friends, and Moxo began Kole's early education in the art of illusion.

By the age of 12, he had performed in more than a dozen states including Canada and Central America.

Andre Kole has performed before millions of people through live and televised audiences all over the United States. In 1999 he received the prestigious Merlin Award for Magic inventor of the decade.

His performance in Jamaica continues during the course of this week at the Assembly Hall of the Mona Campus of the University of the West Indies at 7:00 pm.

On Saturday Kole moves to the Heart Academy in Portmore for another show which starts at 7:00 pm.
