Warrior King brings message of love
Kevin Jackson, Observer writer

WARRIOR KING. righteousness, love and education is what I bring to the people

Warrior King has not deviated from his charted course since his entry into the music industry. He has remained steadfast and true to his beliefs of bringing the messages of love and righteousness in his music.

"Righteousness, love and education is what I bring to the people. That's what I bring to the table as a recording artiste and performer," Warrior King told Splash earlier this week.

He faced the big challenge of following up his first big hit, the catchy Virtuous Woman, with other hits. But true to form the quiet and almost introverted singer easily surged over that hurdle. Following the unqualified success of Virtuous Woman in 2002, Warrior King has had a number of songs which have done well on the various record charts in Jamaica and abroad including Never Go Where Pagans Go, Empress
Divine, and the Atlantic chart topper Jah Is Always There.
King, who is working on new material for his upcoming alluded to the fact that his most recent efforts were not being given ample airtime on the various radio stations.

"I have been recording songs, but everyone knows what the airplay thing is like. I am just spreading the righteousness in the music. Eventually the radio stations will come on board."
Warrior King recently returned from a tour of Europe which he says is very receptive to conscious music.

"I just returned from Europe where I was on tour for four weeks with the Abyssinians. The tour went very well and the album also made a solid impact. The people are just craving for the roots and Reggae music. They are also very receptive towards live instruments and the message in the music," Warrior King said.

Born Mark Dyer in Kingston, King moved to Clarendon and later settled in Portmore, St Catherine. He attended the St Andrew and Kingston Technical high schools and also the National School of Engineering. His early ambition was to enter the field of engineering, however, that got sidetracked when his love for music developed. Soon he was recording songs in his spare time.

His first hit, Virtuous Woman, spent more than 12 weeks in the number one position on local charts. It also topped the New York Reggae chart for a number of weeks.

Commenting of the success of Virtuous Woman, which was also Warrior King's first release, he said: "It was really a great feeling and because of the success of the song it opened a lot of doors for me as well."

The modest artiste claims that his life has not really changed since the success of the song.

"With the break that I got, I had a lot of responsibilities. A lot of people were looking towards me for strength and inspiration. My responsibility is to feed the people with good music," he said.
