| Little wonder that with the runways selling stories of glamour and designers draping models in luxurious fabrics that the one little black dress now comes in variations. |
The ubiquitous black dress immortalized forever by Hollywood actress Audrey Hepburn in the 60s has continued to make several runway appearances leaving every generation determined to create their own version of that darling Givenchy number accessorized with double strand pearls.
The task has been far from difficult considering the fickle nature of fashion watchers. The fact is, with its own acronym LBD and the desire of every woman to look as polished and prim as Hepburn it has been an easy sell.
Little wonder therefore, that with the runways selling stories of glamour and designers draping models in luxurious fabrics that the one LBD now comes in variations. Look out for emphasis on the waist, the corseted look, petite bows, stripes, polka dots, cowl necklines, assymetrical lines, belted, nipped the retro look and shirrred details. The LBD like Hepburn's still (for the most part) flirts perfectly just below the knee and looks perfectly ladylike and reinforces the fact that it's all utterly feminine (especially when worn with pearls, silk stockings and heels). The good news about LBDs is that every woman can wear one. Pay attention to the nuances of style as one style/size does not fit all.
. In your 20s.. Experiment, be outrageous wear the LBD above or below the knee.
. In your 30s.... Tone it down just a little (this of course depends a lot on the state of your body) but leave the risk taking to the 20 year olds.
. In your 40s.... Say yes to style, simplicity and sophistication. Wear cap sleeves if arms are less than perfect.
. 50s and older..
Add the words luxe, elaborate details and quality and wear the LBD like a grande dame or as the French would say a woman of a certain age.
What kind of LBD? What's great about the LBD is first and foremost the colour. It's black therefore, instantly flattering. If your legs are great wear a mini and high heels.
If you're bottom heavy use an off the shoulder LBD or one with a decolletage.
To draw attention away from your upper body slip into something that gives you full coverage. If you're shape is considered a voluptuous one you might find that the LBD shift the perfect solution.
