Rock steady meets reggae and calypso on June 20

Freddie McGregor's annual Rock steady Meets Reggae event will unfold on June 20 at the Bayfront Amphitheatre in downtown, Miami. This will be the fourth staging of the event, and according to McGregor, this year's staging promises to be even bigger and better.

Prior to the big day on June 20 where more than 15 acts are billed to perform, there will be a celebrity cricket match.

Derrick Morgan, Patsy, Stranjah Cole, U-Roy, the original Abyssinians, Johnny Clarke, the Tamlins, Sugar Minott, Eric Monty Morris, Lorna Bennett, Leon Coldero, Calypso Rose and the Mighty Sparrow are among those on the line-up.

Peter Lloyd's Wake Dem Up cracks the charts

Peter Lloyd's second chart hit for the year, Wake Dem Up is currently number nine on the Mega Jamz 98FM top 10 reggae chart. The video for the song is also number 10 on Reggae Sun's Top 20 videos.

Wayne Marshall

Wake Dem Up is a conscious one-drop tune that features the production skills of Daivallon (Dia) Fearon. It has been released on The Light label.

Tek Whey You Gal heats up

Coco Tea's first major hit in many moons arrives via Tek Whey You Gal. The song has been released on the Roaring Lion label and is on the Gal Gone rhythm.

Tek Whey You Gal entered at number 16 on the South Florida reggae chart a week ago. It is also sitting pretty inside the top 10 of the local charts.

In the mid to late 1990s, Coco Tea littered the charts with hits including Too Young and Good Life.

Twitch released from jail

Information reaching this column indicates that sound system selector "Supa Twitch" was recently released from jail after being involved in a shooting incident in Florida.

Reports are that a loaded firearm went off accidentally and a young lady was hit by one of the bullets. She has since been released from
hospital.

Tony Matterhorn injured in motor vehicle accident in St Kitts

Popular sound system selector Tony Matterhorn of Tony Matterhorn Movements was injured in a motor vehicle accident in St Kitts last weekend. Matterhorn reportedly suffered severe injuries in the accident. He arrived in the island earlier this week in a wheelchair. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Wayne Marshall shoots music video in Jacks Hill

Dancehall star Wayne Marshall shot the video for the combination single Why, featuring Tammy Chin, in Jacks Hill earlier this week. The song was produced by Christopher James for the Nutcracker label. Director Jay Will from New York handled the shoot, which also featured cameo appearances from Bounty Killer and Predator.

Tonight Marshall is set to perform at the Grand Lido Negril hotel. Later this month he heads off to Japan for five shows.
