On the Green for Charity
By Sophia Findlay Laidley Observer staff reporter
Sunday, July 04, 2004

June 27 at the Caymanas Golf and Country Club.

Friendly rivalry was the mood last Sunday at St Catherine's Caymanas Golf & Country Club for the Hilton Caribbean Kindness In Donation and Services (KIDS) charity celebrity golf tournament.

With sponsorship and public relations co-ordinator, Jacqueline Knight-Campbell at the helm, the Hilton hosted in fine style. A delightful and eclectic buffet whetted appetites, and of course, there was a courteous staff to wait on guests.
But beneath all the laughter and happiness the annual event, now in its fourth year, has as its main objective to raise millions of dollars for children's charities in Jamaica.

This year's recipients of the $3 million raised from the programme are Jamaica AIDS Support, Jamaica Cancer Society, Sir John Golding Rehabilitation Centre (formerly called The Mona Rehabilitation Centre) and the Bustamante Children's Hospital.
"Today's event is all about the kids who will be benefiting tremendously," Toby Rowe, owner of the Hilton Kingston told SunDay at the awards function.

Meanwhile, over 200 golfers, including top professionals and amateurs throughout Jamaica, the Caribbean and North America, participated in the tournament. Mike Vicens copped the top handicapped (0-9) prize with a score of 35 points and top female prize winner (0-9) was Michiko Asonuma. Other winners in various categories include men: Stan Gilkinson, Billy Williams, Tommy Lee, Quentin Hughsam, Trevor Riley, Keith Smith, Anthony Proudfoot, Joseph Charles. Female winners included Cynthia Tuckey, Stephanie Tuckey, Stephanie Chen-See, Tiffany Terrier and Michelle Hamilton.
