Luddy

Luddy set to make his mark

Miami-based singjay Luddy is set to make his presence felt in North America with his current single Home Tonight which features hip hop producer Timbaland. The hip hop-flavoured dancehall track has reportedly been making an impact at radio stations in the US, garnering power play on radio stations including Power 96 in Miami.

Signed to Danga Zone Entertainment, Luddy is poised to become the first artiste from that camp to make a major impact overseas. Several record companies have reportedly expressed an interest in the rising star. He is also featured on Danga Zone's latest rhythm Sunshine. His track is called Bungalow.

The video for Luddy's Home Tonight has been added to sportswear giant Champs Sports across the US. He has already appeared on stateside television shows to promote the song. Among his appearances were Power 96FM and Telemundo's Reggaeton television show The Roof.

Goodies - 11th combination song between female singer and rapper to reach number one in the US

The song Goodies by 18 year-old newcomer Ciara featuring rapper Petey Pablo is the 11th combination song featuring a female singer and a rapper to reach number one on the US Billboard pop singles chart.

The first such combination to reach number one was Good Vibrations by Marky Mark featuring Loleatta Holloway which topped the chart in 1991.

In 1997 I'll Be Missing You, a tribute to the late Notorious BIG, was credited to Puff Daddy & Faith Evans featuring 112.

Two years later in 1999, Hearbreaker by Mariah Carey featuring Jay-Z, went to number one, while in 2001 Jennifer Lopez teamed with Ja Rule on I'm Real.

In 2002, three such combinations went to number one - Always On Time by Ja Rule featuring Ashanti, Ain't It Funny by Jennifer Lopez featuring Ja Rule, and Dilemma by Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland.

In 2003, the number ones were All I Have by Jennifer Lopez and LL Cool J, Crazy In Love by Beyonce featuring Jay-Z and Baby Boy by Beyonce featuring Sean Paul.

Nelly's Suit and Sweat occupy top two spots on the Billboard album chart

Rapper Nelly's two new albums Suit and Sweat debuted in the number one and number two spots on this week's Billboard 200 album tally. Suit sold over 396,000 copies in its first week of release, while Sweat sold over 342,000 copies.

Nelly's last album Nellyville sold over 714,000 copies in its first week of release in 2002. That disc has to date sold over 6.1 million copies.

Spragga Benz picks up a Source Award nomination

Spragga Benz picked up a nomination in the 2004 Source Hip Hop Awards. He is nominated in the category Best Acting in a Movie by a rapper for his role in the independent film Shottas.

The Source Hip Hop Awards takes places in Miami next month. Rapper Kanye West leads the pack with the most nominations.

The Best Reggae Act category sees Beenie Man competing against Vybz Kartel, Sizzla, Elephant Man and TOK.
