Ocho Rios-based businessman Joseph John Issa, along with eight other former students and a teacher of Campion College were inducted in the fourth Campion College Alumni Association's Hall of Fame Dinner, at the Knutsford Court Hotel, Saturday night last in a lavish ceremony.

Issa, along with Christopher Issa, were awarded trophies for business, while Drs Howard Cooke and Natalie Dickson collected awards for their contribution to science. Peter Espeut and Wayne Burrowes were also inducted in the College's Hall Of Fame for environmental advocacy and sports development respectively. Special awardees - Jamaica Rhodes Scholar 2005, Ramon Arscott, Independence (female) Scholar 2004, Jean Rose and Jamaica Centenary Scholar 2004, Tristan Henry - were also inducted.

The Long Service Teacher Award was given this year to geography teacher and sports coach, Brian Philpotts-Brown.
"I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for my family, wife, friends and, of course, bankers," said Issa.

Dr Natalie Dickson, class of '84, accepts with a kiss, an award for outstanding contribution to science from present headmaster, Mr Radley Reid.

"But, even more importantly, I wish to thank my teachers and leaders, almost all of whom are here tonight and surprisingly are still at Campion - namely John McKay, Mr & Mrs Chin, Radley Reid, Miss Barrett, Father MacWade, Mr Binns, Mr Smith, Mrs Jayasingh, Mr Parkes and Miss Morgan. Thank you from the bottom of my heart," continued Issa, a Eucharistic minister for the Catholic Church since 1983, as well as a Justice of the Peace for the parish of St Mary.

According to president of the Campion College Alumni Association David Shields there are many other Campionites who need to be recognised.

"We hope to form an even stronger fraternity within the Campion family and provide endless possibilities for our new graduates. If our graduates are guided by the successes of those before them, we will have a stronger alumni association and a better community- because we are the best Jamaica has to offer," he told the gathering.

Shields also announced the addition of two scholarships - the Father Ruddy Scholarship and the Sam Mahfood Scholarship to the awards portfolio this year.

Campionites Suzanne Couch and Leanne Welds, provided musical entertainment along with popular local jazz musician Rupert Bent Snr.
