Capleton's video shoot stirs interest around Kingston

Curious onlookers flocked the streets of downtown Kingston and sections of August Town earlier this week to catch a glimpse of the four-song medley music video shoot of firebrand deejay Capleton. Capleton and his entourage, as well as director Jay Will and a large contingent of extras, took charge of some roadways and buildings in recreating the message and lyrical content in the songs Leaders Let the People Down, All My Life, That Day Will Come and Or Wah.

Television personality Amelia 'Milk' Sewell from CVM-TV makes a cameo appearance in one of the videos. She portrays a television reporter. Deejays Jah Thunder, Military Man and singer Moses I also appear in some of the clips.

The four songs featured on the video are from Capleton's Reign of Fire. The album was released late last year and has already scored a handful of hit singles which include Or Wah, Sunshine Girl, In Har Heart and That Day Will Come.
Leaders Let the People Down is the disc's current chart hit, now riding the New York Reggae chart.

The video medley is expected to be ready for release by April 28. There will be a full -length 20-minute feature extracted from the video project. Additionally, each video will be broken down into four-minute clips.

Sanchez committed to the rebuilding process in Grenada

Reggae singer Sanchez, who reportedly delivered a commanding performance last weekend in St Georges, Grenada, said he is committed to the rebuilding process of that island following the devastation of Hurricane Ivan. Sanchez and fellow singer Mr Easy performed in Grenada on a show billed as "A Love Consciousness: Harmony Healing of the Nation."

"It was quite an experience performing in Grenada. The show was off the chain and the turnout was wonderful. But what I saw there was a bit heartening for me. I have decided to help in the rebuilding process by providing school supplies for two of the elementary schools in St Georges. I was really moved by the whole devastation left behind by the hurricane," Sanchez said.

Sanchez said he has completed work on a new album which will be the follow-up to last year's No More Heartaches disc.

"The album is coming out shortly. I am also going on a European tour next month, so the fans in Holland, Denmark, Sweden, France and Germany can look out for me to come and spread the word," he said.

His son Kevin Jackson Jr, who is now 10 years old, is set to follow in his father's footsteps. "He has started to sing as well, and he does have a lot of potential and I want to help him and give him the best support possible. My family never really supported me on my musical endeavours when I started out," Sanchez said.

Sanchez was in the island this past week. He had relocated to Miami a few years ago, but said he was working on being closer to his roots. "I am setting up something for me and my family. I want to be much closer to the roots of the music," he said.

With a career spanning almost two decades, numerous albums and hit singles, Sanchez said the greatest feeling for him as an entertainer, was the number of fans that he had accumulated over the years. "When I go all over the world and perform in places where people don't speak a word of English and they call my name, it gives me the greatest feeling," he said.

EXTRA! EXTRA! EXTRA! EXTRA!

Rapper 50 Cent is still tops on the major music charts in America. His album The Massacre is holding down the number-one spot on the Billboard 200 for a fifth week. Over the past week, more than 161,000 copies of the album were sold, bringing its total to date to just over 2.5 million copies.
Across to Billboard's Hot 100, Rap Singles and R&B charts, the rapper's Candy Shop featuring Olivia is still the king of the hill. Elsewhere on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, Akon collects his second top 10 hit as Lonely jumps from number 12 to land at number five. Akon last visited the top 10 last year with Locked Up which featured Styles P.

XeS Music recording artiste and top Canadian female reggae singer, Sonia Collymore, won the 2005 Juno Award in the Best Reggae Recording category for her debut full-
length album WYSIWYG, (What You See is What You Get) at the 34th Annual Juno Awards held on the weekend in Canada. This is the second JUNO Award win for Sonia in three years. Two years ago, she won for You Won't See Me Cry. "I have never felt more honoured to win a JUNO for my debut album, as the songs are written from my heart and for all the hard work that was put into the project," Collymore said.

WYSIWYG, which is also an enhanced CD featuring her debut video, interviews and behind -the-scenes footage, was released on the XeS Music label in October 2004. The US and international release of the album is set for later this month.

Over on the New York Reggae chart this week, Welcome to Jamrock by Damian 'Junior Gong' Marley holds on number one for a third week. However, the song is coming under serious pressure from Perfect's Handcart Boy which has crept into the number-two spot.
