ART

Sunday, August 20, 2006

THE Super Plus Under-40 Artist of the Year competition opened at the Mutual Gallery, Oxford Road on Tuesday. This exhibition has six visual artists selected from a group of 10 vying for a top prize of $100,000.

The competing artists are: Keisha Castello (paintings and installation collages), Kereina ChangFatt (fine art prints and mixed media), Phillip Thomas (painting), Khalil Deane (painting), Zawdie Reece (painting) and Tricia Gordon-Johnston (paper construction). Each artist has between five and nine works, with each mounting their own mini-exhibition. A 'meet the artists' session is scheduled for Tuesday, August 22 starting at 6:00 pm.

Members of the public are asked to participate in a popular vote to select the artist for the People's Prize, with a cash award of $50,000.

The winners will be announced on Tuesday, September 5.
The exhibition, which was opened by Wayne Chen, CEO of Super Plus Food Stores, continues until September 8.
