SAINT International is reporting that two of its models, Sigail Currie and Sasha Gay Hunt, have been strutting for some of the biggest names in the French fashion capital of Paris, specifically in the Spring/Summer 2007 Pret-a-Porter(Ready-To-Wear) Collections in Paris.
SAINT model Sigail Currie has been featured in an extensive 15-page layout in Italian Vogue. "What is impressive," says SAINT CEO Deiwight Peters, "is that Sigail, photographed with four other models, gained prominent position and even individual shots from the layout making her the star of the layout." The Italian Vogue shoot was done by reputed fashion powerhouse and star maker Steven Klein, while the styling duties were executed by uber-stylist Patti Wilson.
"The ultimate news for me," Peters continued, "is that Sigail walks for Yves St Laurent tonight and Sasha (Hunt) walked for Dries Van Noten yesterday, two of the biggest shows in Paris Fashion Week," adding that Sigail's prominent positioning in the Italian Vogue and her runway work for St Laurent will place her instantly at the upper level of the industry. Peters also revealed that Sigail was requested by Stefano Pilati himself and taken to Paris to fit for the venerable house. Earlier this year, Stefano Pilati was named by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, among Vogue's top 10 most influential designers. Peters pointed out that IMG's Mimi Roche was the only other black model on the YSL show.
Yves St Laurent has been credited with making many a model supermodels. It was the house of YSL that has been credited with making model Liya Kibede, the world's biggest black model. Her status at the top has been confirmed since her multi-million dollar Estée Lauder campaign.
Sigail has had a remarkable career since she started modelling in February this year. She earned her first cover of Profil magazine out of Paris shot by Ron Contarsy and styled by Tyron Mayes. She broke records walking for 10 shows in her first season (February) on the international market (not travelling to other international markets as most models do before coming to New York). By May, she shot the Alberta Ferretti Campaign with Steven Klein and Patti Wilson. And by June, she had worked exclusively as muse for Yves St Laurent during the couture fashion presentations. Sigail is the first Caribbean model to do such honours. She has also done assignments for Chanel, Boudicca, Lacoste, and Heatherette and landed the cover of Britain's Black Hair magazine which she shot while in Jamaica for Style Week Jamaica '06.
In September she blazed across selected designer catwalks in New York and London and now she is stamping her success in Paris. Sigail is the second SAINT model to do duties for powerful fashion bible Italian Vogue. Canise Jackson has also posed for the magazine in a shoot by hot fashion photographer, Iris Brosch.
Sasha Gaye Hunt has been considered by many one of the hottest new girls in the market. She has already worked in New York, Milan, and Paris. Since discovered by SAINT CEO Deiwight Peters at her alma mater, Ascot High in Portmore, she has blazed a path of success shooting high profile campaigns for Aeropastel, TOP SHOP. She has done editorials for magazines such as Italian Vanity Fair, Teen Vogue, TRACE magazine, French Vogue, Another magazine and others. She has walked for top designers across the world including United Bamboo, Mila Schon, Valentino, Chanel and others. On Wednesday Sasha walked for Dries Van Noten and on Thursday she walked for ZUCCA. She is also fitting for the special Benetton anniversary show next week in Paris. Earlier this year, Sasha earned her cover girl status appearing for UK's Black Hair and Beauty magazine.
"When you think about it, this is remarkable, SAINT recently celebrated our seventh year of operation and today we can say for the last six years, we have been sending multiple Jamaican models to the major runways across the world. It is significant that among the black models walking the runways of Paris this season two are Jamaicans from SAINT International. This has certainly solidified the SAINT/PARIS fashion connection."
Based on the performance of these two girls there has been a buzz in Paris as to which big name Parisian designer will be featured at Style Week Jamaica '07.
