Sizzla offers The Overstanding November 21

Wednesday, November 15, 2006

Sizzla Kalonji, widely regarded as one of the leading figures in dancehall reggae, will release the highly anticipated album, The Overstanding, on November 21.

Sizzla will shortly release The Overstanding

The album will be the first marketed and distributed by DDMG/Kalonji Records under the agreement reached between the artiste and American outfit DDMG, headed by hip-hop mogul Damon Dash. Dash famously joined his then new charge onstage at the 2005 edition of Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay. The following day after the release of the album, Sizzla will embark on a US promotional tour in support of the disc.

Emerging in the latter half of the '90s, Sizzla quickly became one of the leaders in the modern dancehall movement. The success of Praise Ye Jah in 1997 secured a strong following and propelled him to the top rank of a then re-emerging wave of roots and culture acts. He released Black Woman & Child that same year, and the title single became a reggae anthem.

It was within this era that he helped lead dancehall back to the musical and spiritual influences of roots reggae, favouring organic productions with heavy Rastafarian teachings, philosophies, and the Back To Africa Movement.

Sizzla has since released over 40 albums, which include a string of other very successful singles, crossing different genres in reggae music. In 1999, Be I Strong was released and Bobo Shanti in 2001, which was spiritually driven and had a strong hip-hop influence, and in 2002 Da Real Thing, arguably his biggest commercial and critical success to date.
The Overstanding is billed by the company as a "prolific, iritical, meditative and melodic album".

The production, expectedly, is a collaboration of talents within the reggae and hip- hop industry and the topics of the album range from issues of love, education, overcoming poverty, teaching values, and life in general. Sizzla has established himself as one of the most prolific contemporary artistes in any genre, churning out album after album with methodical proficiency.
