Friday, January 12, 2007

Proceeds from Vintage and Vibes will go towards defraying some of Beckford's medical expenses.

Members of the music fraternity, the media and other entertainment service providers along with the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission have united to put on a benefit concert for ailing popular veteran musician Stanley Beckford.

The concert, dubbed Vintage and Vibes, will be held on Sunday, January 28 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre with the proceeds going towards defraying some of Beckford's medical expenses.

Vintage and Vibes will be a variety concert featuring popular artistes drawn from the various genres of Jamaican music. These will be featured in four segments: Gospel, Traditional, Mento and Popular Music. Artistes already confirmed include Lubert Levy, Keron Ennis, Noreta Lewis, The Tamlins, Derrick Morgan, Christopher Martin, One Third, 'Q', Jim Laden, A20, The Fab 5 Family, Heather Grant, Roy Rayon and Eric Donaldson. Other artistes are being encouraged to participate and provide support for their fellow musician.

Stanley Beckford produced several hits including Fi Wi Islan' A Boom, Kasilo, Come Sing With Me and many others that were entered in and won several Jamaica Festival and Popular Song Competitions over the years. He has also toured internationally, individually and with groups such as the Turbines and Astronauts.

Funds raised will be from a combination of proceeds from the concert, pledges made through an automated collection system (calls or texts) and a bank account number being set up in his honour for the public to make contributions.
