Ten years ago Don Yute raised a few eyebrows when American record producer, with So So Def Records, Jermaine Dupree who helped shape the musical career of high-riding hip hop and R&B stars like Kris Kross, Mariah Carey, Escape and Da Brat, included Yute's gold-selling Sexiest single, on the So So Def Bass compilation album.
On the local scene, his association with such producers as Donovan Jermaine, Tony Kelly, Mikey Bennett, Dave Kelly, Bobby Digital and Danny Browne, was perhaps the biggest indicator that the rising star, born Jason Andrew Williams, is indeed the Golden Child.
In time, recording on his Golden Child label, Don Yute began releasing self-produced material, including Dancehall Crazy, which brought him a deal with Capitol Records. That early phase of his career led to him migrating to first, Atlanta and then Miami.
After some fluctuating experiences and tremendous challenges in his career path, Don Yute, who returned home a year ago, says he is on the move once again. "This time in my career I'm moving with a greater sense of direction. Meaning that after a year in Jamaica, we're on the move again," he told the Observer.
In celebration of his second coming Don Yute is about to drop a DVD titled Analysing the Analysis from which the first single is Here I Come, featuring the late Dennis Brown.
"Right now I'm getting ready to drop the DVD on which you'll be able to see a video with reasoning and can hear like certain chants. The first single off the DVD is Here I Come, featuring Dennis Brown, which is a cross between the new sound of hip hop and reggae," he explains.
"That's for the Jamaican side of things. Then I've an album in Japan dropping soon. The name of that album Boobilous, is going to feature Beenie Man, Akon, Trick Daddy," he added.
Over the past year Don Yute has also done a song titled Ugly Face for Stone Love label for which a medley video was shot. It's been getting a lot of play on Stone Love and in the dances as well as on the air. "So mi ah get nuff love with dat. Then I have one Who is That Girl, which is a reggaeton kind of flava, produced by Jim Johnson, producer for Pretty Ricky, Little John, Trick Daddy, Twista and Jamie Foxx.
"This is mi base, but I've been representing the music still in rap side/dirty south side of things, so I just coming to show the knowledge and experience I've gained for the other side of the business and how to carry yourself as an artiste.
"I voiced for DJ Karem who has Sizzla's new song that is mashing up the place and I've a song coming out on the Liquid label and some other videos. Out Law has a big tune on the Conquer Dem Riddim coming out also. In the Streetz label on the Hot Wuk Riddim that Vegas has his song on, look out for Don Yute's song. Don Yute going to be everywhere," he promised.
