Jamaica's preliminary to the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant 2007 has begun. Jamaican rights holder Pulse is reporting a strong interest from a number of young women both in Jamaica and in the Diaspora and this could be the year that Jamaica takes the international title. While the prospects are very positive, entries are still open and qualified young ladies are invited to attend auditions for this prestigious pageant at Pulse's Caribbean Fashion Centre, 38a Trafalgar Road, New Kingston, or send emails to pulse44@kasnet.com. All ladies entering must be unmarried and without children, and must be between the ages of 18 and 26. Pulse says it is appealing to bright, beautiful and confident young Jamaican women who also possess the competitive spirit to take the Miss Universe title back to our shores.
Come March 25, one lucky girl will hear her name being announced as Miss Jamaica Universe 2007, to succeed the reigning queen, Cindy Wright. This potentially life-changing event will be an excellent opportunity for a young woman wishing to represent her country and champion an important social cause while taking advantage of the public exposure, networking possibilities and other benefits afforded by this competition.
Miss Jamaica Universe 2007 will walk away with cash and prizes worth over $1 million and will go on to compete with 87 young women from around the globe for the world's most important beauty title 'Miss Universe'.
"This year, prospective contestants can anticipate an exciting schedule of activities," says Romae Gordon of the organisers. With Jamaica being one of the major locations for the upcoming Cricket World Cup, plans are afoot to combine the richness of our culture with special appearances by the finalists, not only to local audiences, but also to the thousands of international travellers expected in the island during this period. The requisite video and photo shoots, TV & radio interviews, island tours and courtesy calls will all be on the roster of activities. As part of their pageant preparation, the girls will have to undergo rigorous voice and speech training and grooming sessions, as well as dance and choreography sessions.
Miss Universe, a Donald Trump/NBC partnership, is seen by over a billion viewers around the world. For the third consecutive year, Pulse and CVM TV will partner to produce what promises to be a spectacular event.
To date, Jamaica has had four top ten finalists in Sandra Foster, Kimberley Mais, Nicole Haughton and Christine Straw. Other outstanding winners over the years include former BET show host and Ms Caribbean, Rachel Stuart; Sanya Hughes, the international favourite in 2002, rated the Sexiest Woman Alive in the Americas; Michelle Lecky and Trudy Ferguson. The past 2 years have seen the crown being captured by the dynamic Raquel Wright and international model Cindy Wright.
The current Miss Universe, Zuleyka Rivera, hails from Puerto Rico. Apart from winning huge prizes, her reign included exciting activities, interviews and appearances all over the globe.
