Miss St Thomas takes the crown

For the second time in the history of the Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Competition, the queen from the parish known for kumina and the Morant Bay Rebellion, walked away with the crown.

Alisha Morgan 22, Miss St Thomas Cooperative Credit Union and geography teacher at the Seaforth High School, wowed the audience and judges, walked away with over 1.5 million in cash and prizes including a Nissan Sunny motorcar courtesy of Mack D's, at the National Coronation show held on Sunday July 15 at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre.

Morgan, who performed her impression of a "Modda Woman" in the talent section of the competition, who after pouring a 'likkle oil' had the audiences in stitches when she pulled out a live chicken onstage saying "I have another job to do".

She walked away with sectional prizes for the best performance, winning $20,000 and a trophy from Ting and another $20,000 and a trophy from Springtime for being the most culturally aware contestant. Other prizes included a laptop computer, Airline Tickets, a wardrobe courtesy of D'Choix among other prizes.
The position of 1st runner-up was taken by Kenise Watson, Miss St Elizabeth who also copped the prize for being the contestant who was most involved in her community.

Watson also walked away with the Digicel-Popular Vote prize that was awarded for the contestant who got the most text votes from the Island Queen Show, a television series that was aired on Television Jamaica over the duration of the pageant activities. 2nd runner-up was taken by 21-year-old Monique Prescott, who was sponsored by the St Catherine Cooperative Credit Union.
