Monday, August 06, 2007

Carlene Davis

Reggae grandmaster Burning Spear, pioneers Johnny Moore and deejay U Roy, as well as local calypso 'king' Byron Lee head a list of nine local entertainers who have been awarded the Order of Distinction in this year's list of National Honours and Awards.

The list, published in today's newspapers, includes singer and minister of the gospel Carlene Davis; cultural and roots reggae singer Luciano; deejay Shaggy, who has blazed a trail internationally to expose Jamaican music; Count Prince Miller; and Theodore Miller.

Shaggy, Byron Lee and Count Prince Miller have been awarded the OD in the rank of commander (CD), while the others have been appointed ODs in the rank of officer (OD).
The nine are among 100 awardees who will receive their awards on National Heroes Day, October 15.
