Half Pint picks up big honour in Hartford

Friday, August 31, 2007

Half Pint shows the proclamation by the city of Hartford in the USA hailing his work and declaring August 11, 2007 as 'Half Pint Day'.

Veteran singer Lindon 'Half Pint' Roberts has return from the United States where he was honoured by the City of Hartford, Connecticut for his contribution to promoting Jamaican music and culture abroad.

The proclamation, which was sent to Splash, reads: "Whereas Lindon Roberts, affectionately known as Half Pint, first began singing in the school choir at All Saints Primary School in Jamaica, West Indies, he later toured the island with various groups, namely Black Scorpio, Jammys, Gemini, Lee's Unlimited and Killamanjaro."

According to the proclamation, Eddie Perez mayor of that city, decleared August 11 to be Lindon 'Half Pint' Roberts Day and urged that, "residents acknowledge and celebrate the important contributions made by Mr Roberts and join in wishing him all God's blessing".

The singer told Splash that he is happy to know that Hartford has dedicated August 11, 2007 as 'Half Pint Day' and reiterated the statements he made in an interview with Splash prior to accepting the ward.

"I'm glad that my work is really reaching across and is recognised by the state, the governor and the mayor of Hartford, enough so that they would issue a proclamation honouring me in the city."

"My music is for healing the people of the world, word, sound, and power is where it really begins. I have to spread the message. Reggae is a great music and it is heard all over the world," he said, adding that he wished that Jamaica would honour his work in a similar way.

Loyal Haylett, Half Pint's manager, shared the same opinion.
"We must recognise the fact that he is an ambassador for reggae music, he is a humble human being and he works very hard, his music deals with equality and justice for mankind. The world appreciates his music and so one can understand why the city of Hartford would honour him," he said.
