Ce'Cile, Alaine and Tami Chynn rock in Atlanta
Ce'Cile, Alaine and Tami Chynn represented for the ladies last weekend at Girls Fest held at Club Legacy in Stone Mountain, Atlanta. The show, which got going at minutes after 4:00 am, was quite entertaining with Ce'Cile rising to the occasion and delivering a tasteful and professional performance.
However, Alaine and Tami were not to be left out of the mix and they threw down some hard-hitting tunes, which left the fair-sized audience entertained. Each performer reached for their respective hit songs which saw the audience singing along word for word.
The Adonia sound system provided early juggling before the main performances.
Girls Fest was promoted by Island Jams and Garrison Entertainment.
Alliance drops new single, while album still in progress
Work is well under way on the much-anticipated Alliance album. The first single, Keeping It Gangsta, features an all-star line-up which includes the likes of Bounty Killer, Mavado, Busy Signal, Wayne Marshall and Bling Dawg.
The track was recorded recently at the Big Ship studios, with Stephen McGregor as producer. The track is just a preview of what Alliance fans can expect from the upcoming album, earmarked for a 2nd-quarter release on VP Records.
According to Alliance spokesperson Julian Jones-Griffith, "The album is going to be full of crazy collaborations. The Alliance has a wealth of talent and we will be showcasing it with a very high level of production. We have recorded some incredible tracks already with some knockout surprises." Among the producers who worked on the Alliance album are Daseca, Stephen McGregor, Christopher Birch and Swizz Beats.
Little X to direct new clip for Mavado's single, Dying
Based on feedback from mix show DJs, the recording, Dying, by Mavado featuring Serani, is to be given the international treatment by music video director Little X. The clip will be re-shot and serviced to crossover outlets in the US.
Dying is taken from Mavado's VP Records release Gangster For Life: The Symphony of David Brooks. The song topped reggae charts earlier this year.
"The reason we chose Dying is because of the feedback we got from radio. We sent out the album to all the mix tape DJs and they all came back with this as the most likely track on the album to blow up. It is also the most digitally-downloaded track from the album," said VP Product Manager Chris Goins.
A protégé of Hype Williams, Little X has been noted for his high-budget, visually distinctive videos for popular music singles, including Sean Paul's Gimme The Light, Usher's U Got It Bad and U Don't Have To Call. He also did Wayne Wonder's video for No Letting Go as well as videos for R Kelly, Ludacris and Kanye West among others.
"The video will definitely help bring us more promotion to the record," Goins added. "The album is still going strong and Mavado's popularity in the core has not eased up at all, so we are concentrating the push on the crossover market."
"VP doesn't have the budgets that are available to major labels, but X was hyped to work on the project when I contacted him," said Julian Jones-Griffith, Mavado's manager. "He and Mavado had met previously, so when we reached out he was determined to make it happen."
The video is to be shot on location here in Jamaica on October 30. Mavado is also slated for an appearance on BET's Rap City show.
Hot Wuk debuts at number 62 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart
Mr Vegas has scored the biggest charting single of his career in North America. His former chart-topping single, Hot Wuk, has debuted at number 62 on the Billboard R&B Hip Hop Singles & Tracks chart.
Vegas had peaked at number 66 on that same chart in 1999 with the collaboration Hot Gal Today featuring Sean Paul. A year before that, in 1998, he stalled at number 69 with Heads High.
Vegas' single, Pull Up, featured on the Coolie Dance rhythm panned out at number 68 three years ago.
Hot Wuk can be found on Vegas' latest album, Hot It Up, which was released by Delicious Vinyl. The disc peaked at number 11 on the Billboard Reggae album chart a month ago.
