JC Lodge's Selfish Lover re-released for Greensleeves' anniversary
Kevin Jackson, Observer writer
Friday, November 09, 2007

Seventeen years after its initial release, Greensleeves Records has dug deep into its vaults and has resurfaced with JC Lodge's landmark disc Selfish Lover. The 16-track set, which was produced by Augustus 'Gussie' Clark for Anchor Recordings, has been re-released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of London's Greensleeves Records.

Selfish Lover features some of JC Lodge's more familiar material which gained notoriety on radio and in the dancehall. Tracks include Love Me Baby featuring Tiger; a faithful reading of Cilla Black's Conversations; Selfish Lover; the Billboard hit Telephone Love; Hardcore Loving; and Lonely Nights.

Lodge who debuted in 1981 with her cover of Charlie Pride's Someone Loves You Honey (which went on to sell platinum and gold in countries across Europe), currently resides in England. The past recipient of the Female Vocalist of the Year title, Lodge who is married to her manager Errol O'Meally, broke onto the Billboard charts in 1992 with the mid-tempo Home is Where the Hurt Is.

Over the years, Lodge has maintained an international fan base especially in Japan where she tours regularly. Her forthcoming album of new material Passion Fruit is due out before yearend.

Selfish Lover is a nice reminder of the goods that JC Lodge delivered at the height of her career.
