1. Junior Reid - Many wondered how Junior One Blood Reid found himself needing a comeback. After beginning his career at age 14, Reid just seemed to drop off form. But in 2007, Reid began flexing his musical muscles once more, and his latest foray of our radios, iPods, and CD players, sees him teaming up with quite a few international superstars. 2008 holds big things for Reid.
2. Brick & Lace - They've been creating waves in music for some time now. At 14, Brick & Lace opened for Roberta Flack at her concert, and in time they went mainstream with Done It To Me. For some reason, they fell off our radar, leaving us with the taste of their hit on the Swatch riddim - but in 2007, Brick & Lace was having none of it. They gave us hits like Never Never and Love Is Wicked, and in short order catapulted themselves back to the fore of our musical diet.
3. Mr Vegas - Yeah, so he's not exactly been dancehall's most popular figure. In fact, it seemed as if after he told us about Traffic Stopping women, and spoke about keeping Heads High, Mr Vegas was on a downhill path. or so we thought. In 2k7, Vegas enthralled us with Tek Weh Yuhself, Hot Wuk, Nuh Fren From Dem, Ragin' Bull and more. We hope his success carries over to 2k8!
4. Anthony B - The Bobo dread, who in his first coming brought Fyah Pon Rome, in 2007 came to Tease Har, and to hold a Higher Meditation, in a comeback that still has entertainment hob-nobs in a tizzy.
5. Spice - 2007 was special for ace deejay Spice in more ways than one. She gave birth to her son and had a wicked comeback in the later part of the year, having fell off the dancehall scene after telling us that she doesn't Fight Over Man, and that awful cass cass surrounding an alleged slap from the Doctor. Ironically, she used the even more horrible cass cass surrounding the Doctor and D'Angel to propel herself back to dancehall stardom.
6. Cham - Cham made this list because he's a summer act. In 2k6, he recorded Ghetto Story, had a marvellous ride on the charts, and enjoyed countless 'fowards' at every session, party, dance, and stage show the ballad was played. But we didn't hear much from him until Summer 2k7, when he reminded us to have a Conscience. His career is still booming, and we want to hear more than one hit from him in 2k8!
7. Ninjaman - The King of Sting, the Original Don Gorgon has been out of sight - and off our radios, TV's, and certainly nowhere near our iPods and MP3 players for the past few years. But last year, aided by Shaggy and his talk about church heathen, Ninja Man reminded us why he is still a force to be reckoned with in the dancehall.
8. RDX - Having teased us in 2003, what with their burst to stardom as members of the group Xsytment, dancehall duo RDX created waves in the underground arena, but it was 2k7 that saw them burst onto the mainstream stage. With runaway Dance, Everybody, and Richie Stephens Dance, RDX seems poised to take 2008 by a dancing storm.
9. ERRUP - In the latter part of 2007, he taught us about the Click Mi Finger way of life. That was after he gave us Gyal A Run Dem Head to enjoy for much of the earlier part of 2007. Errup's return to the fore of Dancehall represents one of the more gracious comebacks in 2007.
10. ICEMAN - After years of making audiences laugh as half of the comedic duo Iceman and Johnny, he left the scene to figure out what was nect for him. And what came next was music, as Iceman surprised us with the catchy '07 tune Make Sweet Love.
