Members of the public are invited to cast their votes for the various categories in which a number of artistes have been nominated by the Reggae Academy Awards. Having received entries submitted by its members based on recordings first released anywhere in the world between December 1, 2006 and November 30, 2007, the Academy has now released its list of nominees. The inaugural presentation of Reggae Academy Awards, is set for February 24, at the National Indoor Sports Centre.
For the category of Most Popular Artiste, nominations are Tarrus Riley, Queen Ifrica, Jah Cure, Beenie Man, Buju Banton, Munga Honourable and Busy Signal in that order. For Most Popular Song, the public is ask to choose from She's Royal, Nah Go A Jail, Sticky and Roots. The Best Dancehall Album will be chosen from Gully Sit'n, Intoxication, Foreva and Walk Out.
Nominated in the Best Solo Male Vocalist category are Tarrus Riley, Pressure, Jah Cure and I-Octane. In the Best Female Vocalist category are Queen Ifrica, Etana, Cherine Anderson and Ce'Cile. The nominations for Best Vocal Group/Duo are Cherine Anderson and Chuck Fender, DaVille and Sean Paul, Morgan Heritage and TOK.
For the Best Reggae Album, the contenders are Mind Control, Book Of Life, True Reflection and On My Mind. In the Best Reggae Compilation Category are Strictly The Best Vol 38, Jamdown Riddim Driven, Reggae Gold 2007 and One Drop Anthems 2007.
In the Best Video category the nominations are She's Royal, Faithful, Stab Vampire and We're Missing You. Best Dancehall Compilation Album include Tremor Riddim Driven, Biggest Ragga Dancehall Anthems, Dreaming Riddim Driven and Heathen Riddim Drive. For the Best Dancehall Video are Nah Go A Jail, Church Heathen, Back It Up and Love Is Wicked. Nominations for the Best Dancehall Recording are Conscience, Watch Dem Roll, Nah Go A Jail and One Loaf A Bread. Contenders in the category of Breakthrough Dancehall Artiste are Munga Honourable, Bugle, Brick and Lace and Demarco. Vying for the Best Dancehall Riddim are Tremor, Gearbox, Power Cut and Sativa.
In the gospel category nominations for the Best Gospel Album are 4 A Reason, Real Life Story, Prodigal Son and Ghetto Priest. For the Best Gospel Song the nominations are Help, Can't Stop Now, Bongo Town and The Gospel. For Best Gospel Video the nominations go to Help, Ketch A Fire, Feels It Knows and Gully People Supen. The Best Gospel Male Vocalists under consideration are Jermaine Edwards, Prodigal Son, Omari, and Jai. In the female gospel category, the nominees are Chevelle Franklyn, Shelly Thunder and Carlene Davis. The Best Vocal Gospel Group will be chosen from Katalys Crew, Prodigal Son and Jason Mighty.
Nominations for the Best Music Producer are Don Corleon, Stephen McGregor, Stephen Marley and Christopher Birch.
