| E-DEE... has taken his career in the world of entertainment to a new level |
One of the most consistent Jamaican artistes is E-Dee. Not yet a household name, this artiste is quietly making strides internationally, straddling the world of entertainment as both an actor and as a recording artiste. And who, if he continues to create the kind of buzz he has been enjoying in recent times, before long, will be one of the biggest names in showbusiness.
Since attracting media attention three years ago, each year he has taken his career in the world of entertainment to a new level. A 2006 Observer article stated that "even though he is pretty much an accomplished artiste in Los Angeles, California, he came home searching for the big break." At the time, the Clarendon-born actor/deejay who uses the initials of his given name (Everton Dennis) for his stage and recording endeavours, was returning from New York after making a cameo appearance in the urban action film, The Party, to which he contributed four songs to the soundstrack.
Also featured in that movie was EMI Toshiba artiste, Ms Trinity. This is the same Ms Trinity, with whom E-Dee, has collaborated on the single Bounce Along, and for which she got nominated for Best Female Artiste. With Bounce Along and Wi Burnin, Mr Triniti is blazing the major charts, including Billboard's.
And talking about Billboard charts, last year there was another Observer article noting that while E-Dee was making a run on that prestigious chart with Revolution, the remake of Dennis Brown's hit of the same name, he was featured in the lead role for another flick, Trailer.
Earlier this year, E-Dee had a bitter-sweet experience on his return to Jamaica. Primarily he came home for the Excellence in Music and Entertainment Awards ceremony (EME) for which he was one of the nominees in the category for Best Collaboration, but a few days before the event, his father died.
"I'm here for the EME Awards, I was nominated Best Collaboration for the single Revolution featuring Irie Love. However, that category was won by Sean Paul and Da'Ville... but I'm based in LA, so mi between JA to LA to the world," chuckled E-Dee before he added, "I lost my father (who was ailing) a few days ago, hours after he congraulated me and told me how proud he was of the strides I was making in my career."
Then he goes on to explain, "I've been working on the new single and on the video that we just finished shot and I was doing a couple movie soundstracks too. One such movie is Over Kill...we just got one confirmed which Jennifer Lopez produced, it's a dance movie."
Since then Paramount Motion Pictures has released How She Move, starring Keysha Cole, featuring E-Dee's song Fire in the soundstrack. This adds to the growing number of Hollywood feature films to which the rising dancehall deejay has contributed. These include Chris Rock's I Think I Love My Wife and Like Mike 2.
E-Dee is currently working on two projects, an album and a movie called Out Di Gate, featuring popular Jamaican actor Paul Campbell who was also featured in his Revolution video which Campbell himself directed.
