Mellow Yellow
Debra Edwards
Thursday, May 01, 2008

Reflect upon a glorious day at the beach complete with the elegant rays of the sun. Yellow is hot this season and you'll more than perhaps understand why many are yellow with envy, and with shades ranging from daffodil to canary hitting the major Spring/Summer 2008 runways of Gucci, Zac Posen, Nanette Lepore, Diane Von Furstenberg, Anna Sui, and Marc Jacobs (to name a few), it's fair to say that this cheerful hue is definitely what's poppin'.

How to feel mellow in yellow is easy too, just start with a LYD (Little Yellow Dress) in a trendy gladiator cut or empire waist (think Angelina Jolie or Bajan trendsetter Rihanna).

If the thought of wearing dramatic yellow all at once leaves you a little daunted, we fully understand and suggest test wears. That's right, take it slowly: try the bright colour in a tank top, cropped jacket or even a pair of skinny jeans.

Another option is to simply infuse an otherwise basic outfit with a bright burst of yellow with the help of accessories such as earrings, necklaces, belts, shoes or a fab handbag just like style hottie Nicole Ritchie. Yellow can be safely paired with white, but also works seamlessly with colours such as grey, navy-blue, green and naturally black. Another happening way to attain your much-needed yellow fix is by rocking the sunny shade on your nails.

"Yellow is hot, and everything we have in the colour has been selling real quickly," expresses Xtra's Clothing's Marie Price.

The added incentive about indulging in this trend is that the right shade looks good on almost any skin tone, but can also keep you smiling as studies show the merry colour can improve your mood and keep you in good spirits.
