In the cut-throat world of dancehall juggling, the name Sky Juice conjures up an image of a tireless, no-shirt-wearing, big-belly-man with a booming voice and an energy to match, holding a mic and burning up the turntables with wicked selections.

That Sky Juice is popular, is an understatement, in fact, he's larger than life and his huge fan base around the globe tells the story. Sky Juice has become synonymous with Metromedia, the sound for which he has been selecting "for 29 years", as he told Splash in a recent interview.

Rated among the world's best selectors, Sky Juice, whose motto is to let the music do the talking, will be celebrating his birthday on Saturday, and it will be quite a party.

"It's gonna be a party, not a birthday bash . a party," he emphasised. "The selectors will be playing lots of souls music and couples will be dancing . it will be a great party," he said softly.

Stone Love, Travellers and of course, Metromedia are the sound systems chosen to represent with a slew of musical selections, in particular 'souls'.

To be held at Rebel T's HQ on Dumbarton Avenue in Kingston, the party will be a red, white and blue affair, and as Sky Juice explained, the colour code has a special significance. It doesn't relate to the colour of one's attire, Sky Juice pointed out, but rather to the colour of the carpet and what makes a person eligible to walk on which carpet.

"The blue carpet will be for those persons with new clothes, the white is for persons with new shoes and the red carpet is anything goes," he explained with a laugh.

Metromedia was started in 1974 by Lou Gooden and some associates. With Lou's migration to the States in 1976,Jimmy Metro took over the sound and is the owner to this day.
