Festival Queen parish finalists to be crowned

Friday, May 02, 2008

Five parishes will select their representatives this weekend for the TVJ Miss Jamaica Festival Queen Coronation show, scheduled for July 19. Manchester, Westmoreland and Portland will select their queen on Saturday, May 3 with St Catherine and Clarendon making their selections on Sunday, May 4.

A total of 44 young women across the parishes will showcase their talent intelligence and cultural awareness as they vie for the crowns. Patrons in St Catherine will be in for a special treat as title sponsor for the competition, the St Catherine Cooperative Credit Union, has provided reggae artiste Richie Spice as guest performer for the show to be held at the Spanish Treasure Hotel. Special guest performances have also been secured for the shows in the other parishes.

Once selected, all thirteen parish queens will be featured in lsland Queen, a television series which premiered last year on TVJ leading up to the national coronation show. The public will also have a chance to help select the national queen through text voting being provided by competition sponsor, Digicel Jamaica.

The winner of the JCDC Miss Jamaica Festival Queen competition will represent the island as a cultural ambassador, both locally and internationally. Coronation shows will continue next weekend with St Elizabeth, St Mary and St James selecting their queens on May 10 and Trelawny on May 11.
