Bounty's It's Da Party gets wet on June 15
It will be a wet Bikini affair for the ladies when the Warlord Bounty Killer presents his It's Da Party Pool Party on Sunday June 15 at 9 Norbury Drive. This will be the first in the series, and according to the Killer, the event will be off the hook. "A pool party was chosen instead of a stage show because Bounty is not just about stage shows he is about the party.
Parties usually turn into stage shows because of the fact that I am already there and the fans expect and request performances and you cannot disappoint the fans," Bounty explained in a recent interview.
"This is one party you don't want to miss," the Killer concluded.
Jazzy T, DJ Karim, Liquid, Nemesis and Code Red will spin the hits to keep patrons busy, while ladies dressed in bikini will enter free.
Jessica Yap blazes an enviable trail
Young violinist Jessica Yap has been quite busy on the entertainment scene. Recently, the 15-year-old violinist delivered an impressive performance at events including Lorna Golding's Evening Of Classics, the JEA/ JMA Expo; and the launch of National Skills Training Competition.
A student of Campion College, Yap continues to blaze an enviable trail leaving her audiences spellbound with her captivating presence. Not bad for the teen who began playing the violin since the age of three At the age of seven, Yap became the youngest in the Caribbean to gain a distinction in grade five theory examination with the Associated Board of The Royal School of Music in London, England. She has since maintained distinctions for violin in all grades. By the time she reached 13, Yap achieved a diploma in violin performance (dip, abrsm).
She was also awarded a scholarship to attend University of India during the summer of 2006 where she studied with renowned teachers Mimi Zweig and Carol Cole. Jessica is also the recipient of the Most Outstanding Performer for three consecutive years in the Music Teacher's Festival held in Jamaica biennially.
Yap was a finalist in Florida's Music Festival at nine years. An enthusiastic tennis player, Yap is one of Jamaica's leading young musicians. Her professionalism is endorsed by multinational companies and heads of government who have invited her to entertain at some of their most prestigious events.
Though classically trained, Jessica has opened her repertoire to encompass all genres of music including reggae, jazz and rhythm and blues.
Yap has performed at the Air Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival and the Miss Jamaica Universe Pageant. Outside of Jamaica, she has performed the New England Orchestra; as well as shows in Washington and Florida.
Jessica Yap will be performing this Sunday June 8 at the Georgian Society function at Greenwood Greathouse in Montego Bay.
Mega Flex makes the right connection with Love Question
Spanish Town-based artiste Mega Flex is currently getting loads of attention from radio stations islandwide, with his latest single Love Question. The song which is being distributed by Energy Beat distribution, has made its way on to several reggae charts both locally and overseas. The video for Love Question which was directed by Dexter Pottinger is also receiving steady rotation on television stations and cable channels.
Upbeat about the latest turn of events in his career, Mega Flex is optimistic about his follow up single Stop the Killing Spree. This anti-violence song seems set to become a hit. Mega Flex has been in the studio working on tracks for his debut album which he expects to be released later this year.
BITS AND PIECES . Deejay Don Yute is back on the scene with two new singles Oh Baby featuring DaVille and Drive Me Crazy featuring singer Amerika. Additionally, he recently teamed up with former UB40 frontman Ali Campbell for the track Hot Gal Yuh a Gwaan. He also recently collaborated with Ernie Ranglin. Don Yute is reportedly in negotiations with overseas labels to release his forthcoming album Destination Jamaica.
. The fifth annual Turks and Caicos Music and Cultural Festival (TCMCF), is set to take place July 28 through August 4, will bring some of the world's most popular artistes to the Turks and Caicos Islands. Among the artistes confirmed to perform are Lionel Richie, LL Cool J, Anita Baker, JT Taylor (Kool & The Gang's Former Lead Singer), Ne-Yo, Russell Thompkins & The New Stylistics, Lou Gramm and T-Pain.
. Usher returns to the number one spot on the Billboard 200 album chart with his latest album Here I Stand. The album sold more than 433,000 copies in its first week of release. It was four years ago that Usher's last album Confessions debuted in the number one spot on the album chart with first week sales of 1,096,000 units. Here I Stand is second in line for the biggest first week sales of 2008. In first place is Mariah Carey whose album E=MC2 sold 463,000 in its opening week more than two months ago.
