Montreal Reggae Fest celebrates fifth anniversary in style

Friday, June 20, 2008

The Montreal Reggae Festival has reached a milestone, and will be celebrating its fifth consecutive year of hosting the hottest names in reggae music at the three-day annual festival.

To celebrate in style the festival is now expanding to include indoor concerts at the House of Reggae, Pub St Ciboire, Alize Show Bar and EB Resto-Bar, all in the Quartier-Latin (St Denis and surrounding areas). Vibrant reggae acts like Wes'li, Shadrock and Mello G as well as international heroes Crystal Axe from Germany and Tinga Stewart and Little John from Jamaica, will rock the reggae stages in the Quartier-Latin and EB Resto-Bar near Vendome Metro; more artistes, more concerts and most definitely more reggae. Indoor concerts will take place from July 8-13, in addition to the three days of non-stop positive reggae vibrations at the Quays of the Old Port of Montreal.

Steel Pulse... has enjoyed decades of international success

The fifth anniversary also marks the return of royal reggae family Morgan Heritage. Formed in 1982 by the five children of veteran Denroy Morgan, the Heritage family has become one of the most influential reggae groups of our time and have just released their tenth album, Mission in Progress. Morgan Heritage mesmerised crowds at the first Montreal International Reggae Festival and will be back this year to do the same.

Headlining the festival at the Old Port on Sunday will be the legendary Steel Pulse. Well known for their roots reggae, anthems the band has enjoyed decades of international success and is committed to fighting injustice, educating the masses, and promoting positive messages through spiritually uplifting roots music. Other headlining artistes include Junior Kelly, Warrior King, Midnite, Mikey Dangerous, Iley Dread featuring Rochelle, Jah Cutta, Mello G, Laza from LMS and Irie Love.
