Artistes jump on board the Disturbia rhythm

Preston Onfroy's In Time Music label is gearing up for the release of its latest project, the Disturbia rhythm. When this column stopped by the Big Yard studios recently, Onfroy was behind the controls while deejay Shane O was gearing up to record his contribution to the project.

"This is the seventh project that I have worked on and so far the response to the Disturbia has been good. It's going to be one of the rhythms to watch out for towards the end of the year going into 2009," Onfroy said confidently.
So far, the project features songs from Shane O, Spice, Anthony B and Munga.

Ce'Cile on top in the British Virgin Islands

Ce'Cile is on top of the charts in the British Virgin Island this week. Her latest single Ride or Die has taken over the number one spot from Duane Stephenson's Chant Love.

Ride or Die which has already registered on several local and overseas reggae charts, is the lead single from the US and Caribbean version of Ce'Cile's latest album Waiting. The album is set for a November release.

Ce'Cile recently topped the New York and South Florida reggae charts with the song So Fly featuring Beenie Man.

Britney's Womanizer - first #1 Hot 100 hit in 9 years

It's not where you start but where you finish. Britney Spears' new single Womanizer debuted at number 96 on the Billboard Hot 100 last week. This week the track zoomed all the way to number one giving Spears her first Hot 100 chart topper in almost ten years.

Not since her number one Billboard Hot 100 hit Baby One More Time in 1999 has Britney Spears scored another chart topper. However, she has now broken the record books with Womanizer.

Just last week, rapper TI had the record for the biggest jump to number one, when his collaboration Live Your Life featuring Rihanna leaped from number eighty to number one.

Womanizer is the latest single from Spears' sixth studio album Circus which is due on December 2.

Reggae Sunsplash heads to the US and Brazil

The line-up hasn't yet been finalised but our usually reliable sources have confirmed that Reggae Sunsplash will be playing select dates in the US and Brazil in early 2009. The names being banded about include The Wailers, Lenny Kravitz, and Half Pint.

My good friend Morgan Carey, brother of pop diva Mariah Carey, is one of the persons involved in the project. I will provide more details next week.

Jam Jam, Campfire, East Fest and Unity Splash are off, but Welcome to Jamrock is on!

It has been confirmed that Cocoa Tea's Jam Jam, the annual Campfire stage show, Richie Stephens' Unity Splash and the East Fest stage shows won't be held this year. There is also word that Anthony B's Trelawny Family Fun Day will not be on the entertainment calendar either.

Some of the promoters when contacted cited among other things, the current economic stability of the country as reasons for the non-staging of their events this year. A promoter who requested anonymity said that the entertainers have out-priced themselves and turn up at events with large entourages who demand free entry into the events.

Welcome to Jamrock will see its fourth staging on December 20 at the Constant Spring Football field.
