Digicel surprises with free concert
By Brandon Allwood Observer staff reporter
Monday, November 10, 2008

Mobile telecoms giant Digicel on Friday turned the streets of Knutsford Boulevard into a stage show, with a surprise concert featuring some of Jamaica's biggest artistes.

The free concert, was staged by the company in an effort to further push its '3for3' promotion as well as to launch its new free nights promotion for prepaid customers.

Headliner of the event, self-proclaimed king of the dancehall, Beenie Man, was in his usual, slightly predictable but fun to watch form. His fans, especially the females, broke out in uncontrollable wining on the streets of New Kingston.

Before him, queen of the dancehall was also in royal fashion. Lady Saw performed to the screaming audience, in a performance that saw her going through songs like Man A Di Least, Chat to Mi Back, and Belvedere Heights. Just as patrons were getting comfortable watching Muma Saw on stage, her energy filled set was over.

Reggae artiste Tarrus Riley was also one to enjoy at the free concert, rolling through his hits Lion Paw and Far Away, as well as She's Royal. Breakthrough artiste Konshens was also an of note performer.

The Digicel Rising Stars winners also in the house, with house-riveting performances from Romain Virgo, Christopher Martin, Kahlil, and the first ever female rising star, Cameal Davis.
