Cen'C Love - representing the second generation

Monday, December 01, 2008

It is the season of the musical passing of the baton, and increasingly the offspring of reggae/ dancehall artistes are stepping on the stage to represent. One such artiste is female singer Cen'C Love (pronounced Sin-See), the daughter of the reggae icon Bunny Wailer, founding member of Bob Marley and The Wailers.

Interestingly, all three Wailers - Bob, Bunny and Peter Tosh - have children who are trodding in their giant musical footsteps.

Cen'C Love, a songwriter, composer and vocal arranger, is based in the US but she, nonetheless fully embraces what she calls "the authentic Jamaican music" and says that she firmly believes in remaining close to her roots. "It's the real vibe in my music that keeps me connected to my father and all the legendary reggae artistes to whom I pay tribute with my gifts," she says.

Now in Jamaica working on an album project with producer Bobby Digital (Digital B label), Cen'C Love is also promoting her newest single A Little More Time, produced by Revolutionary Entertainment.
"It has really been wonderful being in Jamaica and working with Bobby Digital," she told the Observer, "and I know that this debut album will be
really special."

With a hint of shyness, she speaks about her single, and one gets the impression that she would rather just sing it than talk about it. "It's getting some airplay and we would really be pleased if the people embrace it," she says flashing a smile.

But, if this one doesn't happen, then there is the album, which "has something for everybody".

Cen'C, who has performed on various shows locally and internationally, including Bob Marley tributes, last week performed in Amsterdam with Andrew Tosh (son of Peter) and Ky-mani Marley (son of Bob) on a show called Second Generation.

She sings lovers rock and culture and also has a combination single with Andrew Tosh called Eye to Eye.

Now signed to Revolutionary Entertainment, a family record label and full-service event planning company based in the US, Cen'C Love plans to make more frequent trips to Jamaica, the place where, for her, it all began.
