Child fatalities expected to increase by 43 per cent

In September as the new school term opened 10-year-old Daniel White of Ramble Hill Primary School in St James was absent from school as his friends exchanged summer holiday experiences.
White was hit and killed by a motor car along the Bogue main road in the parish just before the start of the school term, allegedly while attempting to cross the busy thoroughfare.

Ironically young White is described as a cautious road user, who sold guineps with his mother along the same stretch of road that claimed his life
The youngster is one of the 25 children that have been killed on our roads since the start of the year.
This figure already surpasses the 21 children killed in 2008.
According to the Road Safety Unit (RSU), child fatalities is expected to increase by 43 per cent this year, compared to 2008.
In the meantime, fatal crashes and fatalities have increased by six per cent and five per cent respectively since the start of the year when compared to the same period in 2008, according to the RSU.
Traffic deaths since January have now reached 265 from 236 crashes with pedestrians accounting for 25 per cent of the fatalities.
