Okay - so you work from 9:00am - 5:00pm, then you have to pick up the kids, but you need to have your hair done as you're presenting at a huge meeting tomorrow. But the salon closes by 6:00 pm. What do you do? Cue: Night Beauty, Jamaica's first night salon, housed in the Pandora Day Spa during the hours of 7:00 pm to 12:00 am.

Creator Daenia Ashpole seeks to help with the difficult balance many women have between working, kids and personal upkeep. “There are increased demands on the modern-day woman to look fabulous and be a boss at the same time,” says Ashpole. Now Jamaican working women can have it all and their nails done! The salon offers everything you could need, including hair care services, nails, facials, massages, waxing and eyelash and eyebrow treatments.

Ashpole says the concept came to her from a personal need. “I always faced the internal battle between resting on my weekends or spending my entire Saturday at the salon to prepare for the following work week.” This is a struggle many women can relate to. Part of professionalism is maintaining grooming, yet that often can't be accessed with traditional working hours. Night Beauty is here to make that balance a little easier. “You can go home from work, prepare dinner, put the kids to bed and drive back, traffic-free, to the salon to get pampered; or you can leave from a late night at work and get treated to a back massage and a pedicure.” A blow-dry and women's empowerment? Sounds like the perfect combination to us.

Ashpole notes that working mothers have been particularly receptive of the services. “I think the best reviews have come from working moms who express their appreciation for the business, as otherwise it would have been challenging for them to relax and get these services done,” Ashpole says.

The idea came to her when she was receiving a treatment at Pandora Day Spa. She suggested the idea to owner Emma Subratie, who loved the idea. With all the spa infrastructure already in place, it took Ashpole only two months to get the operation running. The symbiotic relationship offers benefits to both parties, giving Ashpole what she describes as a “plug and play” space from which to operate.

Ashpole is surrounded by entrepreneurial women; many of her aestheticians have picked up a shift as a side hustle from big corporate jobs. “I think women are helping women more than they used to. It's great to see; I believe in community in business,” comments Ashpole.

Ashpole's background is on the policy side of business development, and Night Beauty represents her start as an entrepreneur and her first time in the beauty industry. “You know, some people might think that because it's 'fashion' that it's easy, but it's just like any other business; it's all about delivering quality content or you're not going to have your customer come back. I'm here every night; I know every client's name; those details are important to us.” The approach is certainly working as working women are lining up for appointments.

One of the challenges she has faced is sourcing high-quality, on-trend products locally, at affordable prices. However, she has found some local options such as Kellye Barwise's “Let Me Lash You” brand lashes and lash care products. She also recommends Pandora's Aloe Vera gel for everything from dry skin to acne.

Ashpole has plans for expansion into regional and international markets, as well as into signature products and services. We can't wait to see what this dynamic young entrepreneur whips up next.

“Night Beauty works for me because they work with my schedule instead of forcing me to fit into theirs! With Night Beauty I get high-quality grooming services without sacrificing critical time from my workday or weekend. Now that's priceless!”

“Night Beauty personifies literal convenience. I usually enjoy going to a spa weekly, but I usually don't have the time during the days, or worse on weekends. With this night concept I can go get a facial at 11:00 pm or any other additional service and I am not restricted to shuffling in the prime hours of daytime.”
