Disco inferno!

People Post

Thursday, January 26, 2012

Anyone walking into the Beaux-Arts de Paris last Tuesday might have assumed they had stepped back in time. Though fashion house Etam was hosting their Spring/Summer 2012 show, it was the ’70s-era disco queens onstage who captured the evening's spotlight.

Soul divas Sister Sledge, Gloria Gaynor, Grace Jones and Chaka Khan all wore their glittery best to perform at the Paris Fashion Week show.

Sister Sledge, a group comprising sisters Kim, Joni, Kathy and Debbie Sledge, are famous for the song We Are Family. Queen of Disco, I Will Survive singer Gaynor, 63, still looked fabulous in a sparkling brown gown.

Grace Jones looked every inch the Andy Warhol muse she was in a revealing black bodysuit, mid-calf length boots and a tuxedo jacket. The 59-year-old Studio 54 regular even wore a black mask over her face to add to the intrigue of her look.

Khan, also known as the Queen of Funk, couldn't resist paying homage to the era in a sparkling black gown. Etam's collection had a distinctly disco feel with its sparkling bodysuits and colourful lingerie, so it was fitting that the ladies should provide the backing music. The catwalk queens posed with snakes and poodles, both of which would have been found inside New York City's original Studio 54.

During the show's finale, each model donned a bright pink wig and danced as the disco queens sang the night away. The French brand is known for its ability to shock and awe.

Post-baby fab

She brought little Harper into the world just last July, but Victoria Beckham has already posed for her first lingerie shoot — and she looks incredible. The 37-year-old graces the March edition of Numero magazine in Japan, in a white corset underwear by Rochas, which shows off her enviably toned and slim physique.

But astonishingly, considering how fantastic the fashion behemoth always looks, she has revealed that she's always been too nervous to let husband David, 36, watch her model.

When asked who would be in her fantasy front row, she replied: “My husband. David has never been to any of my shows as I'm incredibly nervous and I need to focus and concentrate. Apart from him, Tilda Swinton. She's so striking and I would love to dress her. She's incredible looking and I love that she seems so confident in herself she doesn't feel the need to conform.” The mother of four strikes a sultry pose in a blue leather trench coat by Burberry on the cover of the magazine.

Too much material girl

Madonna has been vocal in her admiration of Wallis Simpson — the subject of her new film, W E. And it seems that sartorially she may have borrowed quite heavily from the late American socialite's style book, as she appeared on the red carpet Monday night in an outfit that had a strong vintage look. Dressed in a dramatic sweeping velvet black and grey gown, with a shroud-like ruffled wrap that covered her muscular arms, she topped off the look with a retro style Marcel wave which softened the look.

The 53-year-old pop star, who once took to the stage wearing barely any clothes, has now swung in the other direction, as she appeared covered up on the red carpet at the New York event. While she certainly looked elegant, the Material Girl singer appeared to be intent on concealing rather than revealing. Madonna greeted actor James D'Arcy, the lead actor in her film WE, with a warm kiss and a hug at the Ziegfeld Theater in New York. The English actor plays Edward Windsor in the movie that Madonna cowrote and directed. Madonna won a Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song for the track Masterpiece, which appears on the movie's soundtrack. But she told MTV News on Monday night that she would love to get an Academy Award.
