Under the Dryer

Saturday, January 21, 2012

With over 10 years under her belt as a cosmetologist, Tracy-Ann 'Kimmy Nails' Drummond is certainly no rookie. She recently renamed her business 'Kimmy's Nails Exclusive Signature Spa,' operating under the slogan 'for the kute and klassy'. The business has not only received a new name, but is currently under construction as she is expanding it to include a spa and barbershop. This 'Jane of all trades' also offers custom-made gift baskets, holiday specials, bridal packages and even workshops — informing her clients of the correct products needed to maintain healthy hair, nails and skin. Under the Dryer popped in for a visit with the team from J Wray and Nephew, who poured delicious mixes of Raspberry Rose cocktails.

Clients: Abigail Puranda, Stacy-Ann Sutherland, Kimberly Hastings, Natalia Hylton, Sashanie Lyn, Chevell Powell, and Kadira Carter.

* Apply extensions to the hair in rows.

A Polished Finish

Chevell Powell, student

Nails by: Nakaya Morgan

Like most persons who visit the salon, Nakaya has opted for more than one treatment and got her nails re-polished while she had her hair done. She has been coming to the salon for over a year and often requests the services of Nakaya whose work she finds impressive. "Nakaya is really good at what she does!" exclaimed Chevell. Her hair was done by Drummond, who ensured that her client left satisfied.

Steps:

* Cleanse hair with Motions Lavish Conditioning Shampoo.

* Rinse the product from the hair, then apply a generous amount of Motions Moisture Plus Conditioner.

* Blow-dry the hair using a handheld blowdryer.

* Cornrow the hair so that hair extensions can be sewn in.

* Segment the hair and mist with Hawaiian Silky Herbal Hair Polisher with aloe vera.

* Use a ceramic flat iron to create soft waves at the front of the hair.

* Use a curling iron to create curls at the hair ends.

A Colourful Finish

Sashanie Lyn, student

Nails by: Lorraine Dennis

Sashanie is a huge fan of bright colours and often requests that Lorraine and Tracey-Ann use colours to match her tastes. Her willingness to experiment with colour is evident in her blonde hair colour and choice of nail polish. During this visit, it was no surprise that she chose to have her natural nails polished with Peace out Purple by Colour Club professional nail lacquer. She then requested that Tracey-Ann give her a new hairstyle to complete her look.

Steps:

* Apply hair extensions to the hair using the bonding method.

* Segment the hair and mist with Hawaiian Silky Herbal Hair Polisher with aloe vera.

* Use a ceramic flat iron to style the hair.

* Mist hair with Motions salon haircare oil sheen and conditioning spray to add gloss and prevent frizz.

* Style the hair as desired with a wide-tooth comb.

Sashanie's take:

"I love it! It is very, very nice."

Fiery Bob

Natalia Hilton, student

While browsing her Facebook page one day, Natalia came across the salon's page. She was so impressed that she decided to give it a try. Three years later she is still a dedicated client, making visits to the salon as often as she can. "As the new slogan of the salon suggests, my hair is always 'kute and klassy'. So I will always make an effort to pop in for a visit," she explained.

Steps:

* Apply Organics Olive Oil Extra Virgin smoother and polisher serum to the hair.

* Mist the hair with Hawaiian Silky Herbal Hair Polisher with aloe vera to eliminate frizz, add sheen and maintain the curls.

* Use a ceramic flat iron to straighten and style the hair as desired.

* Style with a wide-tooth comb.

Natalia's take:

"It is a very versatile look. I love my hair."

Silky and Smooth 'Do

Stacy-Ann Sutherland

Nails by: Lorraine Dennis

Stacy-Ann has found a new home for hair and nail care at Kimmy's. "I feel like family when I come here. It always feels like I get more than what I pay for," she explained. Normally she would have acrylic overlay applied to her nails. However, today she wanted to try something new, so she had her natural nails polished with her favourite colour — Pacific Blue by Sally Hansen.

Steps:

* Cleanse hair with Motions Lavish Conditioning Shampoo, then apply Motions Moisture Plus Conditioner.

* Dry the hair by using a handheld blow dryer.

* Mist hair with Hawaiian Silky Herbal Hair Polisher.

* Use a ceramic flat iron to create volume and add curls to the end of the hair.

* Finish the look by styling the hair with a wide-tooth comb.

Stacy-Ann's take:

"I love it!"

Lustrous Locks

Kimberly Hastings

Nails by: Nakaya Morgan

Kimberly has been having her hair done at the salon for about a year. Though she has experimented with loose curls, she is a fan of silky straight hair. "Not only does the salon keep my hairstyles looking chic but I know that my hair has grown a lot since being a client," she said. While browsing a hair magazine, Kimberly decided that getting a new mani and pedi would be an excellent way to pass the time while she waited to get her hair done. "I'm obsessed with pink! It's my favourite colour," said Kimberley as she selected her nail polish. She went on to explain, "I love coming here because not only is it affordable but the service is excellent!"

Steps:

* Cleanse hair with Motions Lavish Conditioning Shampoo and Motions Moisture Plus Conditioner.

* Flat-wrap the hair and sit under the dryer.

* Gently unravel the wrap using a comb.

* Use a paddle brush to make the hair appear smooth.

* Apply Double Sheen Gro Indian Hemp with vitamin E to the scalp and hair.

* Use a ceramic flat iron to create volume and add curls to the end of the hair.

* Style with a wide-tooth comb.

* Finish the look by lightly misting the hair with Motions Salon Haircare oil sheen and conditioning spray.

Kimberly's take:

"I am definitely satisfied."

Abigail's Adorable Pixie

Abigail Puranda

Abigail likes to keep a low-maintenance hair style, so has opted for a 'brush and go' pixie cut. During her visit to the salon she decided to get it styled by the staff at Kimmy's Nails Exclusive Signature Spa.

* Apply Double Sheen Gro Indian Hemp with vitamin E to the scalp and hair.

* Mist hair with Hawaiian Silky Herbal Hair Polisher with aloe vera to prevent possible heat damage from the flat iron.

* Use a ceramic flat iron to apply soft curls.

* Style with a wide-tooth comb.

* If you still require more sheen, apply Motions Salon Haircare oil sheen and conditioning spray.

Abigail's take:

"I think it is really cute!"
