Rocking with COLOUR TRENDS
Saturday, February 04, 2012
Panotene, the authority on colour has declared orange - tangerine tango - to be exact as the colour of the year, followed closely by solar power (a mustard) and bellflower (a light purple) - making these the top three colour picks for Spring 2012; hence our first choice in a series of features we will be doing to highlight fashion trends of the year.
Rock The Cloth shows you how to achieve this trend and look without spending too much. Our focus is on colour, so we're leaving the choice of silhouette entirely up to you. We draped, tied, pinned and stitched until we achieved a few looks we loved - the colours, however, say it all. Places like Ping's and Pablo's make it easy to get the look, as they carry all the on-trend colours as well as a few different fabric types such as cotton lycra, crepe-back satin, stretch satin and knit, all at really great prices.
NB: These looks were constructed without a single stitch sewn today, making it that much easier for you to get the look.
Look 1 is our Lady in Orange; her fabric was simply wrapped and pinned to the side and left to drape. She wears a bold orange and gold statement necklace, orange bangle and orange cocktail ring to finish the look; we wrapped her head in fabric to mimic another look that is trending...turbans.
Look 2 features the mustard and purple, which together make a beautiful combination. To get the look, stitch/tie both fabrics together at the neckline in a halter, with each colour draping to either side. Wrap secondary fabric to one side over the bust and secure, then wrap the primary colour across the other side and around the body and secure.
Look 3 mixes bellflower with tangerine tango and here the fabric is draped asymmetrically, secured at the shoulder and lapped and secured in the back. The contrasting complementary orange makes a waistband that cinches the waist.
Look 4 combines our bold orange with the muted mustard. Bold gold accessories complete the look.
