Charmaine Stewart’s weight loss story
Charmaine is feeling and looking better
By NADINE WILSON All Woman writer wilsonn@jamaicaobserver.com
Monday, January 23, 2012
Name: Charmaine Fairweather-Stewart
Marital status: Married with two children
Occupation: Manager
Starting weight: 210 lbs
Current weight: 176 lbs
Goal weight: 175 lbs
1. What was your turning point?
I always tried to have a healthy lifestyle because I know exercise is good and so is eating healthy, so that is what really motivated me.
2. What lifestyle changes did you make?
I made a lot of changes. I don't eat in bulk anymore. I have a lot of fruit and vegetables. During the course of the day I eat healthy snacks and I cut out red meat, oil and sugar as much as possible.
3. How long did it take for you to start seeing results?
I started in January 2011 and I started seeing results about three months after. At that time I had lost about 10 lbs.
4. What were the challenges you had to face?
I had to spend less time with my children, because I had to go to the gym every evening; but I had to make the sacrifice.
5. How has your life changed since losing the weight?
I am feeling better and looking better, definitely, so my life has been better. I am now able to walk the stairs up to the ninth floor easily because it has become so much a part of me.
6. What is your new-found comfort food?
I loved eating fried plantains, but now I bake or boil them instead because that is much healthier.
7. What advice would you give to our readers who are trying to lose weight?
1. Eat in smaller portions and eat right.
2. Exercise has to go with eating right. Do a minimum half an hour per day at least three days per week. You have to be sweating!
3. All of the food groups are important, so you'll have to try and have at least five to six of the food groups in parts during the course of the day.
4. Eliminate unhealthy snacks like sweets.
Charmaine's eating plan
Breakfast: Fruits and sardine sandwich with a lot of lettuce and tomatoes.
Lunch: Protein dish, example chicken and three servings of ground provisions, such as yam bananas or sweet potatoes.
Dinner: Sandwich.
Snack: Peanuts.
Charmaine's fitness routine

*Strength training.
