Vows - Love's Precious Gaze

Monday, January 16, 2012

Educator Soren Nelson, son of chiropractor Tom Nelson and wife Sally, and research scientist Mariana Chuck, daughter of attorney-at-law Delroy Chuck and wife Patricia, exchanged wedding vows on November 25, 2011 at the picturesque Rio Chico property in Ocho Rios. Though inevitable, their journey to the altar spanned five years. The two met in 2005 when Mariana's sister, Dawn, introduced her to Soren, a colleague at Duke University. It was love at first sight, and after a year of gaining each other's trust as friends, a wonderful five-year relationship blossomed.

Soren had always known he would one day make Mariana his bride, but after attending her sister Kristina's wedding, he envisioned his life with her much more vividly. It was a matter of hours before he decided to take the plunge. He proposed the next day, August 8, 2010, against a breathtaking backdrop of stars and Kingston's city lights as they shared a moment on her parents' rooftop balcony.

Their wedding...

...was a beautiful occasion, with wedding co-ordinator Petra Edwards and event stylist Audia Archibald-Whyte joining forces to ensure perfection. Mariana's father Delroy Chuck beamed with pride as he escorted her up the aisle to her soulmate while the sounds of Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring by Peter Ashbourne's string quartet filled the air. She personified beauty, her hair elegantly coiffed and her make-up exquisitely applied by Primrose Gourzoung, who also styled her bridesmaids. She stunned in an exquisite ivory gown by Eden, clutching a bouquet of pink alstromerias, lilies and roses. The bridesmaids wore Cotton Candy dresses, while her dashing groom and his groomsmen styled in Jos A Bank suits. Pastor Gladwyn Kiddoe presided over the nuptials and they said their 'I dos' and performed a salt covenant, one of the most solemn vows a couple can make with God, beneath clear skies at Rio Chico.

The delicate pink and ivory décor also followed through at the reception, which captured the wonderful mood of the couple's wedding ceremony. This was heightened even more with Mark and wife Mervaylle Foga's performance of Something Good from The Sound of Music soundtrack — a tribute to the newly-weds — before they cut into their almond-flavoured Selena Wong masterpiece.

Laughter flowed freely as guests feasted on culinary treats prepared by Annakay Lazarus and toasted their long life and happiness. Sparkles Disco set the theme for the evening ahead of a very romantic first dance to Michael Bublé's Everything. Soren and Mariana Nelson certainly had a ball, after which they enjoyed a four-day honeymoon in Negril, the first of many more vacations as husband and wife.
