Vows - TROPICAL BLISS

Monday, January 02, 2012

Robert Theophilus Berry, driver at AMECO Caribbean Inc, wed Nordia Roache, freelance administrator, in an ocean-front ceremony on December 3, at Fort Clarence Beach. Vows shares their journey to the altar.

They Met…

… on July 22, 2007, at a concert in Port Antonio, Portland. “We were introduced by both our brothers Joseph Roache Jr and Ryan Berry, who were background vocalists at the time for gospel artiste Prodigal Son, at a concert at the Titchfield High School,” Nordia recalled. “We were so captivated by each other at first glance that if anyone had asked us what happened at the concert we wouldn't have been able to tell them,” Nordia shared. They talked long into the night — from 7:30 pm that evening until 3:30 the next morning. “We spoke about everything and that's what has led us here,” she continued. The very next day Robert surprised Nordia with the biggest fried fish she had ever seen, and the next day the two would indulge in their first official date at Port Royal.

The proposal…

…came on September 16, 2011. Nordia and Robert had dated for four years before the engagement, which took Nordia by surprise.

After a quiet evening with Nordia's family, Robert asked his beloved to accompany him in taking his brother and sister-in-law's home. “When we returned home he asked to spend 10 more minutes, and I obliged,” Nordia told Vows. While they were watching television, Robert held Nordia's hand, knelt by the settee and said, "Baby, you know I love you… you are a big part of my life and I want to spend the rest of my life with you." As he spoke, Nordia noticed that his hand was exerting unusual pressure on her skin and asked why. When Robert showed her his hand, there it was… the ring she had picked out two years earlier. Nothing could stop the tears from streaming down Nordia's face as Robert slipped the ring on to her finger.

The ceremony…

…took place at Fort Clarence Beach in Portmore, St Catherine on December 3, 2011. The couple chose colours of sea green, turquoise and aqua, which reflect the free-flowing nature of the ocean. Officiating minister Bishop Dennis Walton commenced the ceremony and as a gentle breeze blew, Robert, dapper in a Giorgio Armani suit, awaited his bride. Soon, he would see her in a figure-hugging gown (from Macy’s Bridal section) being escorted up the aisle by parents Joseph Roache Sr and Nadine Wellington Bryan, to the tune of Shanice's Saving Forever For You. As Nordia clutched her chrysanthemums wired with hydrangeas, gilofilias and bear grass, her parents handed her over to her bridegroom. Robert looked at her, smiled and mouthed, “I love you.”

The couple exchanged vows in front of their families and friends and soon after were pronounced husband and wife, which was met by rousing applause from the congregation.

The reception…

…followed shortly after at the same venue. There was a serenade by Ryan Berry and Joseph Roache, who did a rendition of KC & JoJo's This Moment, to which the newly-weds had their first dance. Later on, the groom's son, Chadwin Berry, gave a toast in which he called Nordia ‘mum’ for the first time and expressed his appreciation for having them both in his life. The couple later honeymooned at the Decameron All-Inclusive Hotel & Resorts, Runaway Bay, St Ann.
