Try Microdermabrasion for the new YOU
By Novia McDonald-Whyte Contributing editor
Monday, March 13, 2006

SINCE 30 is the new 20, 40 the new 30 and 50 the new 40 then naturally those proponents of this phenomenon would have in place the 1-2-3 on embracing such lifetime changes.

You're spot on ladies and gentlemen. (What did you think for a nano-second ladies that the men have not embraced the wonders of a skin care regime)?

The beauty buzz was all over Waterfalls - Spa Aesthetique's new location - last week. Beauty expert Gaudia Aquart finally plugged in the microdermabrasion machine and flew in French skin care expert Nadine Harvey to train and demonstrate yet another way to maintain a youthful glow.

All Woman immediately cut to the chase. Why microdermabrasion?
Both Harvey and Aquart were able to without, might we hasten to add, missing a single beauty beat, explain in 10:
.Sun Damage (no arguing that point since we're
always exposed to lots of rays).

.Uneven granular skin (many can relate to that).
.Black heads (the machine literally sucks them out).
.Fine lines, wrinkles (no arguing that one).
.Pores (well some people do have pretty impressive
looking ones).

.Scars as a result of acne (bring it on).
.Minor surgery scars and stretch marks (let's keep it
real minor is no reason to loose sleep like acne scars).
.Stretch marks (all mums will come running).
.Dull lifeless skin (a must for many).

What we loved most about the treatment.
The long and detailed session, we chatted for some 20 minutes. We actually saw people being turned back. Retinol users beware. You need a grace period of at least seven days. If you're on Accutane the wait period is six months.

A test patch was used to check for reaction.
If you've got active acne then don't even think about microdermabrasion.
The Treatment:
Not at all painful.
The fabulous facial that followed is a great additional benefit.

Post treatment: The good news "amazing tone in the skin". Skin also nice and soft.

Not so wonderful: Skin is thin (major alarm bells went off. Sagging if more care doesn't start right away).
Signs of hyperpigmentation: A result of not paying too much attention to sunscreen and of course my passion for squeezing juicy bumps.

Treatment course: Five more sessions plus daily use of sunscreen.

What we discovered:
Microdermabrasion (the skin is literally "sandblasted" by aluminum oxide crystals, baking soda, salt or corn cob granules to remove the (top) layer of the skin; dead skin cells), by itself will not achieve great looking skin. Working with a skincare line like Methode Physiodermie and persons trained in mixing great skin cocktails will give skin the necessary boost.

Since microdermabrasion also promotes the production of new cells in the deepest layer of the dermis, it seems only fair to be given a second chance with your face by applying great new products.

This we can attest is not simply a marketing tool for we at all woman have been using the line since December of last year all it seems in preparation for the switching on of Gaudia Aquart's microdermabrasion machine.

Who is it for?
The best candidates for microdermabrasion are those with acne prone and blotchy skin, small scars, large pores and skin that has uneven texture as a result of sun damage. Be reminded that it is a non-invasive technique for those who do not need a serious laser or chemical peel treatment.

Finally the cost?
J$6000 per 30 minute session.
Methode Physioderme products attract an additional charge.
