10 ways to tell he's not the marrying kind

Monday, May 05, 2008

SO you meet the requisite tall, dark and handsome hottie, and before the first date is over, you're already imagining what your kids will look like. He seems perfect, but you can't help but get that nagging feeling that something is just off, that he's missing a certain element that you just can't put your finger on.

Thing is, he might be missing that 'settle down' factor that you're looking for - and if you're wise, his actions and subtle hints will tell you whether he's the type to give you babies or not. Here are 10 ways to tell that he's not the marrying type - so you don't go wasting your 'old, new, borrowed and blue' thoughts for nought.

1. He keeps dropping hints about the places he wants to go and the things he wants to do (including the exotic women he wants to sleep with) when you're trying to do the mortgage talk with him. A key thing to listen out for when a man is making plans for the future, is not only whether you're included in those plans, but whether his plans are practical ones that give the way to a stable relationship.

2. His idea of a fun night out is him being out with his friends go-go club-hopping and you being out with yours all the time. A man who's interested in a long-term commitment will want to include you in his plans, even when it's go-go club-hopping!

3. He thinks the girls in The Girls Next Door are perfect specimens and spends all his time searching Wikipedia for information about them. And when you ask what's the deal, he mutters something about you invading his space, and 'can't you leave a guy alone to have some fun'.

4. He begs you to change the channel when Newlyweds is on, and turns pale when he sees babies at the park.

5. He goes down on one knee - to ask for a threesome with the bank teller next door.

6. He seems to be only into sex: if he only comes around when he wants a booty call, then stay clear of him. The only commitment he will have is to sex and he can get this anywhere.

7. He stares at other women - when you are on a date. This is a bad sign and indicates he is not ready to settle down with one woman, but rather is still 'shopping' around.

8. He tells you that marriage is not something that he is crazy about. Once a guy goes out and says this you should listen. He doesn't value the institution of marriage and is therefore likely to treat it lightly and no different that he does a casual union.

9.Despite the fact that you live together he still refers to the furniture as 'my stuff': this means he is not willing to share and chances are if he does get married things would remain that way.

10. He feels men will always be men and just want to have fun.

This is a definite sign he will break your heart over and over with scant regard for your feelings and needs.  It also means he will not be committed to staying home but always out with the 'guys'.
