The University Chapel in Mona was filled with the family and friends of Dr Kevin Keaton Palmer, son of Kenton Palmer, managing director of Crown Packaging Ltd, and his wife Olive, and Dr Shereen Antoinette Ramcharan, daughter of Joseph and Arlene Ramcharan, owners of Honesty Tours transportation business. They were invited to witness and celebrate the couple's union on Saturday August 16. The wedding was a unique 'East meets West' affair as the bride and groom combined East Indian and Western cultures to create an unforgettable occasion.
Royal Splendour Shereen looked regal, dressed in red and gold traditional East Indian garb that was flown in from Karishma's in New York. She walked up the aisle like a true Maharani, her stunning beauty captivating all - particularly Kevin who was smartly outfitted in black and maroon, and could not seem to take his eyes off his beautiful bride.
Gold was the accent colour of the day, and bridesmaids Latanya Fisher and Dr Corrine Packer were dressed in hunter green and gold, while the maid of honour Sadeeta Ramcharan and junior bridesmaid Sharmilee Ramcharan, both sisters of the bride, wore ivory and gold East Indian outfits. The groomsmen Dr Leroy Campbell and Dr Gordon Palmer, and the best man and brother of the groom, Theodore Palmer, channelled GQ in their co-ordinated suits from Petals and Promises.
The hymn O Perfect Love made a resounding sound in the beautiful chapel; the couple exchanged glances throughout the song. Officiating at the ceremony was Bishop Clovis Tracey who expressed his pleasure with the union and wished the couple all the best in their future endeavours as a family unit and in their medical professions. The two met at medical school and became friends but had a special connection. Kevin pursued Shereen (who, according to her sister Sadeeta, had a secret crush on him) and the rest is history. Shereen plans to specialise in pathology while Kevin is headed into the field of urology.
Soloist Andrew Lawrence sang love ballads to create a romantic atmosphere while the couple signed the register. At the end of the ceremony, a triumphant sound was heard from the organ and the couple, smiles abundant, exited the chapel as husband and wife.
Truly the 'Talk of the Town' The reception was held at the Talk of the Town Suite on the 17th floor of the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel. The bride and groom (whom I was told by their friends are both excellent planners) spent an entire year planning the event themselves along with the help of Sadeeta. The décor done by Dion Corrie included gold candle-lit centrepieces, with touches of green, gold and rose accents in keeping with the fruits and flowers theme, and was accentuated by the breathtaking views of the city lights. Guests had the opportunity to indulge their sweet tooth at the chocolate fountain provided by Chocolate Dreams, or sample hors d'oeuvres and premium drinks from the bar during cocktail hour before the reception.
The three-tier cake adorned with fruits and flowers was made by Dr Eve Palomino-Lue. Dinner choices tempted the palate and included appetisers - crème of pumpkin soup and mango sorbet, and a main course that offered pan-roasted chicken basted with a wine glaze, grilled fillet of snapper florentine with ginger butter garnished with a medallion of lobster, duchess potatoes, broccoli almondine and for dessert delectable chocolate rum mousse.
Let us lift our glasses... There were many toasts, some were filled with jovial marital advice, others with tears and pride for the Ramcharan and Palmer families but mostly happiness and joy for the union of the couple. Sadeeta, who made the toast to the bride, through tears of joy said, "I know that Shereen, with Kevin as the wind beneath her wings, will have a life filled with happiness."
Due to their hectic schedules, the honeymoon will take place late October, when the couple will take a seven-day cruise of the Eastern Caribbean via Caribbean Cruises.
