The event will be hosted by actress/comedian Claudette Richardson-Pious, known to many as 'Miss Little'.
According to Maliaka Bryce, public relations officer for Voluptuous Production Group, while eight contestants have been chosen, only one will be crowned Jamaica's first 'Miss Jamaica Plus 2009', this, after showcasing beauty and talent in a professional, structured competition.
"They will gain exposure, a chance to win thousands of dollars in cash and prizes, while gaining valuable modelling experience and career opportunities," Bryce said.
"The pageant was created to inspire and assist young, plus-sized /full-figured women to acquire healthy self-esteem, body image and to incite meaningful debates on eating disorders, mixed messages and standards of beauty," Bryce said.
Singer JQ and comedian Marlon Brown are down to perform, promising the audience a unique and unforgettable entertainment experience.
Contestants are Nadia Edwards, Feyoneisha McGrath, Kimberly Williams, Marshalee Wanliss, Annesia Bowen, Tricia Shawn, Kedesha Brissett and Solange Maxwell.
