PHILLIP Paulwell, Minister of Commerce, Science and Technology, has been named among the '50 Most Important Blacks in Technology' for 2005, one of two Caribbean politicians to make the list.

The list, compiled annually by editors of US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine, was released in mid-December.
"Honorees are chosen for this annual list based on their work in making technology part of global society," said a news release announcing the selections.
"During the year that the list is publicised, its members are presented to young people as role models, and their accomplishments are upheld as examples of the important contributions made on a daily basis by the millions of blacks in high-tech jobs around the world."
The current list comprises senior level company executives across major industries, academics and researchers, and politicians.
Senator Lynette Eastmond, Minister of Commerce, Consumer Affairs and Business Development for Barbados, is also on the list, one of 12 women selected.
On February 18, the group of 50 will gather in Baltimore, Maryland, for discussions on black entrepreneurship, executive development, and educational readiness for the digital economy; and an awards dinner.
The functions will be incorporated in the 19th Annual Black Engineer of the Year Awards Conference - said to be the premier career development and employee recognition event for blacks in engineering, science, and technology.
The honorees will also be featured in the January/February 2005 edition of US Black Engineer & Information Technology magazine.
