Observer Reporter
Thursday, March 24, 2005

Corporate executives will be exposed to techniques in making the best choices when making investment decisions about information security for their companies.

The security issue will be discussed at a one-day seminar on Friday, April 8, organised by the Jamaica Institute of bankers (JIOB) at the Courtleigh Hotel & Suites in Kingston.

A systems engineer and expert in information security, Major Karl Chambers, will make the presentation.

In a press release yesterday, the JIB said that the seminar would provide executives "with an understanding of their roles and responsibilities in protecting their department's information".

Other issues to be explored include the top IT risks facing their departments information assets, how to implement internationally accepted safeguards to protect information assets.

Other issues to be covered:
IT security risk assessment
Business impact analysis
Systems vulnerability
Privacy issues.

The JIB said that the seminar would benefit department managers in areas such as payroll, finance, inventory accounting, internal audit, and human resource.

Said the organisers: "The potential impact on customer service, a company's public image and reputation and possible legal liabilities will be examined and participants will be apprised of major mistakes often made regarding information security and crucial components of successful security awareness programme."
