Observer Reporter
Friday, June 23, 2006

Earl Moore, CEO of Guardian Insurance Brokers Ltd, and Allied Insurance Brokers CEO, Sandra Donaldson, have been confirmed for another term as president and member of the Board, respectively, of the Insurance Association of the Caribbean (IAC).

The confirmations came at a board meeting following the annual IAC Conference in Montego Bay earlier this month.

Also confirmed were vice-president Keith Cholmondely
(Guyana) and directors; Brenda Lockhart (Bahamas); Rani Lakan Narace (Trinidad); Martha Guerra (Belize); Davis Browne (Barbados); Douglas Camacho (Trinidad); Michael Martin (OECS); Austin Gary DaSilva (OECS); Roger Yee (Guyana); Sandra Donaldson (Jamaica); Steve Stoute (Barbados); Gerry Brooks (Trinidad); Danny Scott (Cayman) and Lynne Woolrich (Associate Members).

The IAC Conference saw over 600 international and regional insurance executives meeting at the Ritz Carlton, the second time in eight years that Jamaica has been chosen to host this prestigious event.

The conference, under the theme, "Oh Katrina. We Must Survive", brought together general and life insurance practitioners to explore issues related to the preparedness of insurers and their insured, for weather disasters.

The conference was declared officially open on Sunday, June 4, 2006, by His Excellency Kenneth O Hall, governor-general of Jamaica and featured a keynote address on Monday, June 5, by Bruce Golding, MP, leader of the Opposition. Superintendent Charles Parent of the New Orleans Fire Department, shared his city's ordeal due to Katrina on Tuesday, June 6, 2006.

A host of specialists helped ventilate the issues including Dr Barbara Carby, director-general of the Office of Disaster Preparedness & Disaster Management; Dr Rafi Ahmad, head, Unit for Disaster Studies, University of the West Indies; Dr Michael Young, lead wind vulnerability engineer, Risk Management Solutions.

This year the IAC Conference was jointly hosted by the Life Insurance Marketing Research Association (LIMRA) and the Life Office Management Association (LOMA) who joined forces with the IAC instead of hosting their separate annual conference for executives from financial service

organisations based in or with operations in the Caribbean.
IAC Conference 2006 covered industry management and marketing issues for the general, life insurance and financial services industries.
